Last weekend’s Cultra Hillclimb in Northern Ireland celebrated 50 years of the Formula Ford racing category and “60 Years of Crosslé racing cars”. The Thoroughbred Sports Car Club hillclimb is based in the parkland grounds of the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum and once again attracted a capacity entry of 100 cars, which was filled in a record three days. Cultra 2017 will see the Irish launch of eRally’s fully-electric rally car, this popular concept is based on the Renault Zoe and is the first fully-electric rally car to be inspected for a competition log book. During the day, the team will be doing demo runs up the technical Hillclimb course, with ex-Juniors rally drivers at the wheel. The opening round of the 2017 ANICC Millers Oils Hillclimb Championship may have fallen on April the 1st this year, but this didn’t stop Croft Hillclimb, Holywood, Co Down cementing its reputation as the seasons perfect opener with Ulster’s hillclimbing fraternity. Last Saturday the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum played host to Cultra Hill Climb 2016, Ulster’s best known automotive garden party. This unique event combines a competitive hillclimb with demos, displays and parades all put together with the aim of showcasing local engineering and giving the general public a glimpse of Irish motorsport and motoring history. Last Saturday May 14th, Round 3 of the 2016 Millers Oils ANICC Hillclimb Championship was played out over the one mile long Dromhorc Hillclimb near Banbridge, Co Down and after getting his maiden championship win under his belt, it was Bangor’s Christopher Houston who made it 3 rounds out of 3 by winning class 14 and taking FTD in his OMS CF04 single seater. Last Saturday the 16th April, Croft Hillclimb, Holywood, Co Down played host to Round 1 of the 2016 Millers Oils ANICC Hillclimb Championship, with Ulster’s hillclimbing fraternity producing a wide ranging entry of 69 cars of which 64 completed the course and posted a time.
