After members of the Four Wheel Drive Club of NI had posted details of their ‘Road Tax Vehicle’ class event at a quarry outside Larne, I went along with Robert in his Nissan Terrano to see what it was all about. This was a change of pace for both of us being typically at drift and track events.

We arrived around 9.30am for sign-on and scruitineering. At only £20 entry for the day (and half a tank of diesel) it was certainly not an expensive event. Everyone in the club was very welcoming and before long we were out scouting the quarry for the first stage. The event ran like clockwork with each stage running consecutively without delay. When we weren’t driving or walking out the stage we were enjoying watching other runs from the regular members. Raised chassis and mud tyres definitely seemed to help compared to our road spec Terrano.

Our thoroughly enjoyable day flew in and we are hoping to get out at another RTV event. If you are interested in attending, and for further information see www.4wdni.co.uk.

Andy is the founding member of RMS, and when he's not following motoring events around the UK and Ireland he can be found on the track (sideways, having competed in top level drifting for a decade), or of course he'll be on the forum.
