guys the bonnet release cable on my wife's car has snapped, and instead of trying to fit a new one I was thinking of rigging up a short cable connected to the bonnet release catch and have it hanging just behind the grill.Would this be mot legal? Thanks

Can't see why not, as long as it just pops the first catch and then you still have to operate the second catch by hand.
That's just a guess by the way, until you get an expert reply.
