They're twice the car and half the price of an Escort.

There's a Mexico on ebay for 30k, 'restored' 10 years ago with a set of silly bucket seats in it, going by that your Twincam is a bargain at 15.

Still the most 'fun' car I've owned, up there with an RX-8. Both shyte in the scheme of things.

It's all relative. The people saying prices are madness are usually sitting in 20 grand's worth of financed Fiesta ST or diesel Golf that'll be worth 6 in 3 years, that's madness to the rest of us

Great thread this.

These cars go round in cycles, it's not the first time a classic car has went up in value, I think it's very much a generation thing. Many of the cars going up in value now are due to the generation that pined after them when they were younger, now having the money to buy them, own them and restore / maintain them. This helps push the value of parts and the cars.

Also bare in mind many "investors" from a different side of the coin dabble in cars, add in lack of confidence in the stocks / shares, the economy etc.

It's not necessarily about the car being good, the most powerful etc.

I do also agree with @Paul RS that the newer generation of cars can become a little too specialised to last the time. I appreciate people have said that before, but I do think there is a lot of truth in it.

That's my 2p.

I sold an 86 Corolla GT Coupe last week for £15k. Was advertised for 4 days and sold to the first viewer. These cars are making the money and had no shortage of calls. Still received a few calls after advert removed asking if I would pass on the details of the buyer to see if he would take a turn!!

The car still created threads on Facebook saying I was mad and the usual bull**** but the market proved otherwise. People say oh it cant go on at this rate but supply and demand will dictate the market and unlike property there will be no new supply of original cars....

Not one to be rude but that car still needed £3000+ spent on it possibly. Whoever 'restored' or repainted it before didn't do it right.

I doubled my money on a tommi mak, in 18 months. Probably should have kept it longer but the cost of storing it ect adds up.

Exactly. You'd need a massive well climate controlled shed to properly keep cult cars for an extensive period of time to see any profit. You'd be better letting that space out to someone wanting to store their boat or caravan instead of informing your solicitor to amend the will to include a '93 SRi Cavalier 8v.

Can you imagine your children's faces when they read that one out. At least there would be little or no inheritance tax. Maybe even due a rebate.

What's that got anything to do with it? The point is the thing sold.

The point I'm trying to make is that the fella buying was either deluded or was willing to have it costing him another 5K possibly, meaning 20K in total. That goes to show what sort of money people are wanting to pump into these things.

I would assume it's the fact a low mileage genuine uk car doesn't come up too often. It's prob on it's original engine, there's not many like that for sale? Sure a boy had 84 blue chassis plates and tags and glass. No shell nothing else and wanted 3k for it so I'm not surprised. It's madness lol

Interior and engine bay looked top notch mind you but the exterior would have put me completely off buying it knowing what work would have needed done to put it right. You should have held on to your car now, eh?
