I have a Stihl chainsaw that runs great but if you leave it idling and then go to throttle it up again it usually just bogs down and dies as soon as you pull the trigger. Sometimes when idling it will just die as well. When this happens it will only restart if you apply the choke. Any ideas?

Really well
If you look up derryhale lawnmowers on fb. Guy kenny will be able to sort it. He's done years at them. Only over the road from you too. If you message him should be able to help.

Great news
Have you checked the obvious stuff like the plug, air and fuel filter. Also the chains not too tight it’s getting enough oil and the clutch is working ok.

If it’s not that the L jet might need richened slightly or the carb cleaned.

Sounds like the pilot jet or main jet's dirty/blocked. Check the fuel filter for bits of crap in it then pop the carb off and clean the jets out with a bit of wire and carb cleaner

Does it have a spark arrestor screen in the exhaust; might need cleaned.
Or the vent for the fuel tank blocked.

There will more than likely be a high and low adjustment on the carb. Sounds like the low is set a bit lean open it out a quarter turn. If you reference the still website it will tell you base settings. Some carbshave brass blanks that need removed to access the needle valve adjustment
