check under the car for its draingage holes, they rot like hell... also around the archs and sills for rust, top mounts go alot and give a rattle, apart from that not much really, they go on for ever

Also check the dash bulbs all work and the central locking pump/locks

aye buy a late mk2 driver. far better base to start with!
as vts lad said check the floors in the back for the rubber plugs in the drainage holes, they perish then rot the floors,had to weld mine over. shake the front wheels to see if the top mounts are rattling, not that big of a probelm though, sills and arches are bad for rust, some of them have dodgy gear linkages and can be hard to get into gear, other than that pretty much bombproof although they are worth very little
