So one day I heard a rumbling sounded like a rattle. Car is a 15 golf r

Mechanic initially thought crank shaft pulley, changed that, no dice.

Then swapped out tensioner and alternator bearing, no dice.

Took belt off, rumble goes away, so last thing on that belt is the aircon pump. Ordered an mahle one via autodoc, fitted today and regassed, still there.

When we took out one of the pipes the o ring was split, which we thought suspicious so that was replaced.

But alas, it rumbles on.

Has anyone ANY suggestions before I lose my mind?

None of the above, haven't changed the belt but I may aswell.

I put a screwdriver on the alternator stuck my ear to it and it was rattly as ****, compared it to the wife's tiguan which was almost silent. Mine sounded like a skeleton having a tug in a biscuit tin.

So it absolutely be the bearings inside that. I've changed everything else so why stop now lol

Sorry I read that as you replaced the alternator in your original post. You only replaced the pulley?

Yea that's right, pulley was 100 bloody quid to, if I'd known an alter atom on autodoc is decent money I'd have just done that
