Sooo, if he thinks the FF is ugly, does that mean he'd prefer the MG ZT....? :p

Until now I've thought the Aventador SV looks totally **** with its crappy origami styling and contrasting carbon bits and pieces.

Finally (literally) an fully painted SV that actually looks good, though less said about the wheels the better

The various stylists seem to have got every Audi generation Lamborghini just right, at the outset and then the company has completely ruined their cars' appearance with later editions and revisions. I thought the Murciélago was a masterpiece and wondered how they'd handle the replacement but when the Aventador eventually arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to feel the same way about it as I did the Murci - but the SV - all that matte black to compete with those bold lines and ugly bumpers and diffusers and comedy SV graphics on the quarters as usual seem to be the norm for this. I wish they would bring the performance enhancements, along with a new wheel design and subtle badging instead of turning their cars into something that looks like it was drawn by a nine-year-old with felt tips.

Agree fully. Seems to be the Lamborghini way, across every model ever built, but increasingly moreso in the modern age.

I'm not a Ferrari fan, but one thing they do fairly well is release a model, make one or two variants over about 10 years, keep it looking more or less the same.

Lamborghini on the other hand 10 years sees a first generation car; then a release roadster; then up horse power and release LP-XXX where xxx = upgraded horsepower; then eponymous model; then LP-XXX + 20 hp; then SV; then anniversary model; then SV-R... etc. each time getting ****ter and ****ter looking

@Graham (18 months after the review) or other Italian aficionados ... How bad an idea is an Alfa 4C as a sunny Sunday garage queen? Less or more hardcore than a K series elise? They don't seem to have dropped as much in value as I feared they may. Other options are Evora which I don't feel is as special or an older R8 V8.

As a toy for the weekend id have one in a heartbeat, not refined in any way and really special wee thing, so much more so than anything else imo

Wife done plenty of miles in it and loved it though found it claustrophobic and too hardcore

@RickyB drove the one I had and didn't like it though, but not sure if he has driven your other options to compare

Cheers for that very helpful. Couldn't imagine Boyd in one at all haha. I want something that's more of an event to cruise about in. I'm never pushing anything bar a rental kia to its limits these days on our roads and I can't be bothered with the track any more. It would probably do about 2k a year. I just never got excited by an evora that much. An R8 is probably too much car for me and I don't want to be spending 4k or something insane on brake discs etc.

Alfa really is an affordable supercar featuring the full bare carbon tub etc, it oozes charm, character and is a handful on the road yet will reward on track if you ever done it, it is also a car that few will know what it is which means you feel like your in something even more special with the amount of folk that will take pics and ask you what it is - i was tortured in the one i had but it was good fun telling people what it was and that it does the same MPG as their Vauxhall Corsa lol

As for the R8, i don't recall driving a V8 model but i have done plenty of track miles in a V10 and had a V10 model for half a day around the ards peninsula and i honestly wouldn't have one near me - they are big, cheap feeling inside, poorly equipped, expensive and worst of all, have no forced induction

Sounds like exactly what I'm after. Definitely will be getting a drive in one. They definitely need the convertible's headlights. The standard fly eye ones are like a 90s moretto Ford escort effort.
