Hi All,

Apologies for the delay in responding, today is my first day back after spending three weeks off with my family within the school holiday and I am able to respond to all unanswered messgaes.

On the Greenlight front back in July 2007 (after some extensive due diligence) we launched a new computer operating system that would be the platform for the future development of Greenlight.

Unfortunately the system did not deliver and it's capabilities turned out to be more of an 'artists impression' rather than useable functions - some 900 bugs and errors later, along with plenty of duress for both management and staff here we chose to source an alternative system.

After due diligence this went live upon 01st June 2008 and can actually cater for what we need in terms of current customer transactions and future planned developments.

The knock on effect of trying to better yourselves to cater for an expanding system is one thing, but try this with broken tools (operating system) for the last for the 11 months from July 2007 - June 2008 which have added roughly 2-3 hours to our working days until we moved on.

Everyone here was impacted by this situation and had taken the strain, which although we did seek recompence with the responsible party who had portrayed what they did not have (and signed a contract based upon this) life was made far harder than it needed to be for the 11 months from July 2007 - June 2008.

Having led the project I took the situation and what it was doing to my staff personally, spending an inordingate amount of my time becoming heavily immersed in resolving the problems were were experiencing and sourcing a replacement system.

When we received recompence from the responsible party this was divided equally between all staff members, which to me was the right thing to do.

As a company we have historically by and large done a decent job, our heart is in the right place and we were founded 13 years ago to cater for performance/modified car enthusiasts based upon myself and my colleagues all being part of this scene (albeit with varying models/marques).

Although this thread has some recent negative comments and we appear to have let some of you down, I will do my best to restore faith in those of you that have lost faith and in this regard my door (or PM mailbox) is open to you to resolve any problems that you are still experiencing.

Conversely there are numerous comments within threads and received via PM demonstrating our positive involvement with RMS members over the last 2 years.

We have experienced all the ensuing growing pains associated with integrating new systems, staff etc. - by and large following transfer away from the disfunctional system things are back to how they should be.

Having been upon Really Mean Sounds for around 2 years now and met the people, I am personally extremely fond of (most) of the RMS members encountered and due to this had taken on the liaison with RMS as a personal project.

The problem with being the principal partner at Greenlight and trying to effectively manage forums in a front line manner is that the development projects that i've been involved upon are both onerous and ongoing, which coupled with taking time out (3 weeks since July) with my children I haven’t been able to maintain the usual vigil upon the RMS forum.

With this in mind and to ensure we maintain a decent advisory capacity with members I will look to involve further staff members with forum liaison.

It is my intention to fully review all PM's/Posts within threads and to respond both publically and privately to these posts/individuals.

I accept that since July (mainly due to my historic stance of looking to be personally involved with RMS and not involving other staff to oversee the forum) I have not been able to maintain the forum interaction in the same way as I had previously and I apologize to each and every one of you for this.

We are committed to this forum and if anyone has a pressing issue, has experienced a problem in my absence or would like to discuss anything further simply PM me

Kind regards

I recently got a quote for a car I plan to buy this weekend. My current insurer (Quinn) told me they could not insure this car, regardless of age or ncb etc.
I shopped about and the prices I was getting ranged from £1100 to £1600.
I then phoned Greenlight, quote under £800 and the guy I spoke to was really sound and took lots of time to explain things to me.
From my short and recent encounter with Greenlight I must say i'm very impressed and satisfied.
And I also should be a customer on that recent quote within a few days ;)

Thanks for your comments,

We have tried to maintain a service as best we can, due to system failure our working day had been extended 2-3 hours and a hefty proportion of our management time was taken to attempt to resolve the system problems, then source and implement a replacement.

This was time that would have been spent maintaining a vigil and liaising with members online to assist them with any queries, or Insurance questions they had.

We are catching up by first answering all PM's, then searching and commenting upon threads across the week.

In the meantime, many thanks to you all for your patience and understanding.

Kind regards

Tony

Are you still scared of a fast clio with no ABS Tony??

Unfortunately so Chris,

The claims performance with the 172 cup via our main scheme Underwriters that we have access to for Northern Irish business was really poor for 3 consecutive years on the UK mainland and thus the restriction.

We did start out (back in the day) covering all sports models and any restrictions have came from analysis of our historic performance with vehicles, area's or profiles.

I will post on here as soon as we source an additional Underwriter who is feeling brave on the 172 cup front and permits us to offer their terms within the Northern Irish market.

Kind regards

Tony

Fair play to you tony for taking the time out to explain the situation to the rms members.

Hopefully the company is running as normal again and you can still deliver competitive quotes to potential/existing customers.

Hi Johnski,

We had a decent chat a while ago and it's good to see you're still around.

RMS is a really good forum, with a decent membership and lively healthy debate - we never set out to let anyone down and have built a decent reputation over the years for providing a good level of service to our customers.

We have been under duress for a period of the last year, but since switching (for the second time in a year) to the latest operating system which is a great platform (used by Adrian Flux, Herts, Pearl assurance, Heath Insurance & Kwik Fit amongst others) in June 2008 has really helped.

By posting here I wanted to honestly apprise you all as to the issues that had influenced our service and we have genuinely tried to maintain the level of service.

Any customer experiencing problems with our service is unacceptable to me and we will look to make good in each and every case. Thus if you are an existing customer that has experienced a problem with our service I request that you PM me to outline the problem in order that I can personally look into this for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Ended up going with you guys this week Tony for what was an excellent quote for the 3000GT. Just need to sort out getting the NCB to you and confirm the current mileage too as wasn't sure of it when taking it out.

One of the things I mentioned to the guy was that I'd be putting the car into storage over the winter months (6 of) at a different address. He mentioned you's might be able to work something out with regard to the change of address on the policy twice a year...

Hi Sam,

Many thanks for your faith.

The quote is only one element and whilst the product is good, restoring our service to the level is was prior to our switching to the failed operating system in July 2007 was the major target, which after moving to an established systems provider this June we have taken a big step in the right direction towards this.

Both our staff and management time has increased, people are now not under duress and we have regained the time that was being spent fixing bugs, devising and implementing work arounds or processing general tasks that took between 8-10 times longer than they had historically.

We are able to be a whole load more proactive again and the first steps we are taking along this route involve the review of each and every PM/Post or problem listed with a view to contacting the individuals then wherever possible making good.

I'm conscious that some of you have experienced a hard time, or dislike some of the processes that either Greenlight or our Underwriters stipulate. As part of our contact process we will be looking to listen and learn with a view to reshaping the service, cover and products offered to you.

This may take a few weeks to implement but any feedback, or constructive suggestions in relation to service issues, policy cover or each and every one of your requirements will be taken into account then used to improve our offering.

I have ensured that the e-mail notification of PM's/thread developments has been switched on and thus posting within this thread or via PM to help ensuring all responses will be answered.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Bride (& ALL),

There is a section upon our online application which allows you to enter a future cover requirement date, which wherever possible will be used to provide an estimated premium to you.

Our online application will take less than 5 mins to complete and you'll receive an e-mail to confirm your quotation along with a text telling you that your quotation has been processed and sent.

The address to apply is www.greenlightinsurance.com

We are a performance/modified car Insurance specialist and our schemes are aimed at this market, which can be a problem if you look to change to an alternative non-performance model within the term.

With this in mind we have negotiated with our main Underwriters and altered our own processes to give all of you more of a choice should this happen.

I can confirm that should you change to a non-performance model vehicle that is acceptable to the respective Underwriter under their everyday product (ie. in most instances unless the vehicle is a Truck/Van, Motorcycle, Jeep/4x4 offroader, or people carrier) we will be able to run the vehicle until the end of the policy term.

There is a charge for running a vehicle that is outside of the scheme, which is usually £40.75 - but as part of our review with you it is our intention to take this up with the main scheme Underwriter.

You will be offered a 2nd option, which would be a "Pro-Rata" cancellation - this effectively means that all remaining days of the risk element of the premium will be refunded to you.

We do look to retain the remaining proportion of our annual commission, but where we are unable to accomodate you, or you're choosing to cancel as you are switching to a non-performance car we will not apply a cancellation processing charge/fee of any kind.

The ethos of the performance scheme is such that we aim to be competitive for performance model vehicles, our belief is very much that people that own vehicles that you aspire to own rather than an A-2-B model have bought that vehicle for a reason. It's not just a piece of metal to them and as such this pride represents a good moral factor to us.

In addition, by and large performance model vehicles have better handling (suspension & braking), better vehicle security and where necessary the power to get you out of trouble.

Enhancing or refining your vehicle through after market modifications, spending time & money (that usually did not need to be spent in the eyes of the everyday motorist) planning then getting your vehicle exactly how you want it is a further positive moral factor.

Whilst some modifications will incur a charge due to the value to replace them (under like for like) or having a dramatic effect power wise, we do understand most modifications and are sympathetic to the merits of carrying them out along with the impact upon the vehicle, which will always be taken into account when providing terms for after market modifications.

Having been present within Northern Ireland for two years now we have proven the point to our mainland Insurers in relation to covering risks within the province. We will be using this track record over the coming months to boost the range of products offered to hopefully accomodate more of you.

I do recognise that we exclude a number of performance vehicles, which is purely based upon our historic performance and experience with these models.

Back in the day we began by covering ALL performance models and only removed a model following 3 consecutive years of losses or problems with the specific models in question.

Unlike just about every other Insurer (who would usually just capture your details regardless and quote high or decline after capturing your data) we overtly list these models in an up front way to save you applying for something we are unable to do.

As we expand our product and scheme range within Northern Ireland, we will communicate and alter the list of vehicles should this change.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tony,
I am glad you mentioned about the changes to a current policy as I was going to lol.
My Greenlight policy recently ran out and I have not renewed 'yet' only because the car is off the road at the minute. I do hope that I can get another competitive quote from you guys soon when I start driving the car again but I have a short term policy at the minute on another vehicle.

Anyway, I wanted to mention a minor complaint ragarding policy changes. I originally took out my policy and paid I think around £1100 or so for the year which was taken out in two monthly payments. During the term I had to swap my cover onto another 'standard' car which would be deemed by anyones standards to be of less risk. this was to be only temporary so I was not worried about getting any kind of refund but what did annoy me was the charge for changing the cover over. I think it was about £27 (can't remember exact figure). I have seen this done before with other companies/banks etc but I also can't see how this is justified.
Fair enough the cost of the paper and the stamp for the new certificate and some minor admin costs ( about 2mins on the phone) is agreed but not to the sum of the actual fee that I was charged.

On a second occasion within the same policy term I purchased another vehicle (impreza) and wanted to change my cover onto that. This time I was prepared for the charge to change the insurance, but I ended up paying well over £100 for this. I was told it was due to the type of car. I pointed out at this stage that I had already paid a premium for a car which was much more powerful and should be deemed as a much higher risk but this was not the case apparently.

I have come to expect this from insurance companies as they generally tend to work in weird and wonderful ways regarding the cover on certain vehicles but to be honest I did expect to get some common sense from Greenlight as they seemed to be up to speed and took a more modern view of the industry.
This has not put me off, although I would be interested to know if the charges etc will continue just incase I find myself in a similar situation again.

One last point is that when I took the policy out, I had read that Greenlight would mirror my NCB on a second vehicle so long as the underwriters covered that vehicle. I had tried to add a second vehicle before swapping the cover but was told that this facility was no longer available. It is only for this reason that I had to swap the cover instead and therefore lost the cover on the original car.

As I said, I do hope to take out another policy with Greenlight so please don't take this as bad mouthing. It is simply a minor point that I felt I had to mention.

Thanks Gav.

Seems Greenlight is serving N.Ireland well.

Tony i just noticed your Location, Not too far from me, have quite a few mates live in Brentwood, and The O'Neills pub there is very nice, Justina an Irish lass is the manager, her Husband Barry is the Govenor of the O'Neills where i work In Leytonstone, east London.

But I'm sure i did try your place for an insurnace quote for a standard D-Turbo, and it was terrible, lol.
Probably because East London is a sh it hole though.

Hi Karlos,

Parts of East London are extreme in terms of rating and other than Chingford (E4), Woodford/Woodford Green or Docklands (E14) there are very few places that come out higher from an area rating perspective.

Also, we tend to be better with the higher performance models so unless extensively modified we'd probably be a bit pricey for the D-Turbo.

O'Neill's is a popular pub in Brentwood, used to be a Firkin but was taken over a few years back.

Living in Brentwood I also drive past your branch of O'neill's (Leytonstone) every other week en route to Upton Park.

Nice to hear from you and hopefully we can help you some time in the future.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Bride,

Providing the new car is a sports/performance model we should be able to accomodate the change and will remain competitive.

If it's a vehicle that is an everyday car, under the quoted scheme we will offer the opportunity to run until renewal for a charge of £40.75 (which we are currently in the process of reviewing with the respective Underwriter).

You will also have the secondary option of a pro-rata cancellation without application of a cancellation processing charge/fee (as listed above) at the time.

As per my detailed post above, I have outlayed the current process for switching to a standard car along with our views as to why we prefer and can relate to the perfromance/modified car area within which we specialise.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Bride,

We are really looking for performance models and a standard 320d, although from an ABI perspective is a lower group, would fall outside of the ethos we have (described above) in relation to the high performance/modified vehicles we target & why we target them.

Thus if you're looking to change to a 320d from a modified MR2, i'm fairly sure we will not be the best people for the 320d. With this in mind, unless the 320d was to be modified (which is probably not the reason you bought the car) it's unlikely that we'll be competitive for the 320d in place of a modified MR2.

Kind regards

Tony

i would be looking to get it remapped etc but i'd prefer to buy a standard one i.e. so it has not been thrashed

This is going to sound a little strange coming from an Insurance provider, but modifying the vehicle would actually help from a scheme perspective.

Do you cover Lotus yet, seems strange that you don't (or did not) when quite a few of the big guys do, I would rather my money goes local.
