Hi jirvine75,

As you say £1k is a hefty one off premium.

We do have some pre-set criteria by our finance provider for automatic qualification, but we are able to refer bespoke cases to them - which would definitely be worth a try.

The best person to enquire about this internally would be Barry Scott (our head of systems) and if you still need a hand with this I would encourage you to call him.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tony

My son got a quote of you for his DC2 import which he tried to take out yesterday. He was told you cannot do installments on 3PFT only fully comp - which is a fair bit more expensive. Is this defo right? At over £1k I think its a bit unreasonable to expect this in a one-off payment :confounded:

Hi datsun9292,

There is some outset criteria for qualification for premium finance, which is assessed on an individual level.

But to outline what you need for acceptance you would need the following:

1) A debit or credit card in your own name
2) A bank account that can handle direct debit payments
3) No CCJ or bancruptcy
4) Not a very low value vehicle

We will always look to accommodate wherever possible and if you require premium finance we will try our best to offer this for you.

Kind regards

Tony

I know this is not strictly a "Do you insure my car" question, but, im currently wondering if Greenlight, allow for Direct Debit nowadays?

Hi Tony,
Not sure if this is the right thread for this but do you know if a 1995 GTST Skyline would qualify for classic insurance? I was told over the phone it wouldn't and I got a very reasonable quote (as always) under a normal policy but I am looking to use it as a weekend-only car and will be doing very limited miles. Cheers!

Hi Rossh0,

Thanks for thinking of us for your Insurance requirement, i'm glad to hear that you received a very reasonable quote under a performance car policy.

This model isn't currently listed under our classic car schemes, but where mileage is limited this can still help to reduce your premium under a regular performance car policy.

I'm not sure how long ago that you received your quotation, but we have been trialling a new product over the last 10 days with one of our main Underwriters for performance/modified cars and we've noticed this product is proving great for 2nd vehicles or lower mileage cars.

As it's a 2nd vehicle on a limited mileage basis, if it was over 2 weeks ago that you applied it may be worth calling to check that you're listed upon limited mileage and to refresh the rate.

Kind regards

Tony

Glad to hear that JDM cars are now being covered. I think I rang you guys around may time though for my NSX and you said you were unable to quote me as my car was JDM, but your original post stated April ... how come?

Look forward to checking out your services next time round

Tony is out of the office at the moment so thought id come and reply. Im not 100% sure of the exact date our system was updated for the JDM imports were officially updated....I know we can definately cover all types of Performance and modified JDM cars including the NON ABI listed cars.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards

I just wondered if you had reviewed your policy on not covering Lotus?

Hi Nickyyy,

Thanks for taking the time to post.

Providing you've a good driving record (ie. haven't mowed down too many bus queues) we are able to mirror our equivalent percentage discount for the years no claims bonus that you've earned upon your first vehicle.

We also allow some good concessions for limiting your annual mileage requirement, which would be particularly useful if you were intending to use one vehicle as a main use option and the 2nd on a lesser mileage basis. It would also work if you were intending to split your annual mileage between the two cars and could limit the mileage on both.

Greenlight as a company do specialise in covering the type of vehicles that you have and providing you've driving experience of a performance car we provide relevant cover, plus we'll be pretty competitive for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Do you folks do a sort of multi car policy? I'd be looking to insure my DC5 and DC2(or whatever I buy to replace it between then ) with you when I'm 21

Thanks tony.

Both cars would be used socially as I get the train to work and I've had 2 dc2s now so I don't think performance car experience should be an issue

One thing to check. How would a quote he affect as I've had a crash. Other party was at fault and its been settled. I didn't claim off my own insurance and instead pursued payment from the 3rd party insurers. Will that affect greenlights ability to insure me?

Regards.

Hi Derekm,

Thanks for posting.

We have had some recent success with covering the Elise model, with ownership of the vehicle being the common factor with this.

The problem we had with these models was that in most instances of accident damage, there is often a need to re-chassis the vehicle. Which has a dramatic impact upon the cost of accident claims.

Thus Underwriters are wary as to the Elise/Exige models.

Judging by the combination of vehicles that you own, the Exige may not be an everyday vehicle. If this is the case and you've owned the Exige for a year we stand a chance of being able to refer this to Underwriters on a bespoke "one off" basis for you.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Nickyyy,

You're sounding like exactly the type of customer that we look for.

Having had 2 DC2's in the past it's likely that you'll easily pass the performance car requirement and using the vehicles for social purposes, rather than commuting through rush hour will also help (remember to mention this when you contact us).

Non-fault incidents need to be advised to us, as our Underwriters require all incidents to be disclosed. But our current preferentially rated schemes do not apply any terms for a non-fault crash that has been fully recovered, so you'll not be penalised there.

When you're looking for cover (and have 10 minutes spare) we'd welcome the chance to help (y)

Kind regards

Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the response.

I have owned the Exige for about 4 years now and it does less than 3K miles a year. Really only a summer weekend car.

Hi Derekm,

With that kind of experience and limited use i'm sure we'll be able to help.

You'll also have options such as trackday cover, which could be useful to you with the Lotus Exige.

We'd welcome the chance to help and can take a look at this for you when your next renewal arrives.

Kind regards

Tony

Thanks for posting.

We can cover most of the JDM Toyota ae86 levin models, so should be able to help with this - particularly if it's modified.

If you'd like us to take a look at this, we'd welcome the chance to help.

You could either call 01277 376000 (9am - 6pm weekdays, 9am - 1pm Saturday), or PM me your contact details and we'll call you to run through this for you (y)

Kind regards

I think it's a requirement from the underwriters dude and not Greenlight strictly speaking

tbh i still rang greenlight and ended up with another broker

not wanting an argument.. just reading the info it sounds like a good option.. then shot down by something so small

It's all about weighing up the risks. Have 0 NCB isn't something so small in my eyes if I was an insurer...

Hi JHXR,

We can cover the vehicle if you have earned NCB and have it in use upon another car, as we'd usually be able to "mirror" the equivalent NCB percentage across.

Our Underwriters track all claims made across their entire respective businesses and base their acceptance decisions upon their historic experience. They're looking to avoid consistently unprofitable factors and not having previous progressive driving experience in your own name, or having zero NCB do not perform well for our Underwriters.

It's nothing personal and we'll always try to help everyone that contacts us.

Hopefully we'll be able to help you next time around when you've earned some NCB.

Thanks once again for trying us.

Kind regards

Tony

Hi StevenMc29,

When an Underwriter takes on a policyholder, in addition to the client's own vehicle they're facing unlimited liability for injury caused by their client.

A client's No claims history supports their track record and sourcing Insurance without NCB is a bit like applying for finance (loan, credit card or mortgage) with no credit history.

We will always do our best to help, but with our products mainly relating to high performance models our Underwriters will require a No Claims Bonus.

Kind regards

Tony
