Got a illuminated gearknob to fit...(2002 golf)
Gearknob has 2 wires coming from it
Blue which is (+) and a red

Plan to tap into the cigarette lighter wiring..want it to light up when headlights are switched on
Can anyone advise which ones I connect them to

Many thanks

Brown is earth and grey/blue is illumination.
Worth getting a basic test light for this sort of thing, less than a fiver.

So the blue (+) wire to the brown
Red to the blue/white
Does it need any fuse ?

Other way round I imagine. The red must be "ground" which is brown at the cig lighter. And put the "+" (blue) to the illumination which is grey/blue at the cig lighter.

Going by the info above.

Can't imagine it needs a fuse , it'll only be an led light.

Sounds right^^ if you're sure that blue is +ve on your LED. You don't a fuse.

How do you run the wires for one of these; do they just stick down the outside of the gear lever or is somekind of hollow lever with the wires inside?

Is my wiring correct or charlyskunkweed?
Was told by the buyer that the blue wire is positive
The two wire run up inside the knob...and must slide over the lever...no better when I sort the wiring out and fit it

Guess if the buyer (you mean seller?) told you blue is poitive then that's what it is.
Unlikely to damage it if you get it wrong, just swap them over if it doesn't work.

Yes the seller said the blue was positive

So saying red is negative(that goes to the brown) and blue + going to blue/white?

Why not just ground the red wire to where your handbrake mounts? That's bound to be easier than finding another earth wire.

You're best to just use a multimeter to be safe. Not hard to use and it's good to get into the way of using it. You don't need anything fancy
