Landrover Defender 130

Just a small update as my phone died due to the below freezing temps outside.

Got my puma bonnet fitted with a td5/300 gas strut kit from xcess 4x4 and modified it to suit.

Have to remove it to fit sound deading and tidy up my trimming.

My friend Louis managed to get some decent footage back in the autumn but only getting my hands on it now. Quick edit with some music mainly making choo choo noises down the lane. Will be interesting to see the comparison with the new injectors and pump mods when its out again. I reckon its much faster again lol.

Have been a little busy with work this week so not much else to report exhaust now fully welded and ill get it fitted over the weekend.

Pushing on through the cold with the exhaust. 95% complete apart from a few springs to weld on as its too tight to get anything else in. settled on the oval style for the tip.

Been working away getting some of the tuning and sound deadening fitted to the defender.


Also started on the trans tunnel mock up


After getting all the mods complete. went out for a brief spin, very happy with the results.


Boost is now peaking at 2.7bar a little black smoke while on boost. Safe to say im at the limit of the hx35 and ill be leaving the power around there for a while.
estimated around 300-350hp with the 3800rpm governor and sheadloads of torque.

Engine and pump mods so far.
5.9 cummins
HX35w turbo 12cm housing
3" inter cooler and pipework
3" exhaust
+50 injectors
VE static timing advance 1 tooth
Boost pin
Piston lift pump.

MOT's now getting closer.

been working on small details so far this week. got the rear lights fully installed now with stainless screws.


New wiper stalk that actually works sorted


Someone must have borrowed the wiper relay so i upgraded it too a vw programmable relay. always handy.


Pedal covers fitted


Heater controls routed and fitted


And the rest of the dash mocked up


going out tonight to work on fabricating the trans tunnel and some more wiring.

Its looking like january now, keep finding wee things that need sorted. im sure ill find more lol

Anyways had a big push there over the weekend and ill break it into 2 parts, first the front end, now together will light guards and air con grille fitted.

@mcma1 kindly donated some light guards which needed a wee touch up and paint before going onto the 130, really like the look of them.

Put some foam on the back to stop them scratching and rattling on the wings


I had to make a plate at the top to make the aircon grille fit a non aircon wagon. rivenutted the original then added the bracket and drilled


then 2 lower brackets out of some angle and rivenuts in the wings


Then drill and rivenut the lightguards onto the wings


Threw the grille on just for now ill have to get something sorted as it badly cracked, might make something.



Couldnt have turned out better in my opinion, got some tired bits to replace like the grille but im loving the clean but slightly modded look thats actually hiding a monster vision ive had is coming together.

I see that the tub is painted in the white bedliner, is the cab of the truck also in bedliner?

Where did you source the air springs from, I can't find a spring here (Australia) that has that much travel.

Props again for an awesome machine; can't wait to see the finished result!

No just the tub, it will have a hard life probably.

Airsprings where sourced from granning in the UK. They are a firestone bag do a serch for a local distributed should be able to get them.

Been working away on the trans tunnel. I found an old tunnel in the shed, sliced it in half and added around 100mm in the middle with some aluminium angle keeping the OEM look.


I took the standard closure plate for the bulkhead and gave it a similar treatment.



Test fitting



Then fabricating a cover plate for the large hole out of some aluminum plate.


Get the hole cut and seal and rivet it up job should be a good one.

Got some goodies and badges.

and went for a play lol.

List is getting shorter but still lots of details. rocksliders should be back from lazer tomorrow next welding project.

Been busy working away on a few other things but back on the 130 this week.

Finished the trans tunnel bar covering with sound deadening and carpet


Got the valves regulators and air system sorted for the diff lock and Hi.LO box


Bracket made for the air dryer


Started work on the doors almost ready for paint.


Had a visit from @mcma1 today as well. Landys bringing people together

also got some badges in the post. and a few bits of 4340 from ashcrofts

Cracked on this week and got the cab masked sanded and repainted


Then moved onto the final assembly.

Moving onto finishing the doors and interior then refitting the exhaust and rear tub. Still need to design and turn some dies on the lathe to finish the rock sliders hoping to get to that soon.

Happy new year to you all,
Been hiding away tidying up bits a pieces. got my hi/lo and cdl working on the valves. and most of the doors finished, im short some of the lock mechanism for one and some trim as well as door cards on the rest.

Heres a video of it working.

The welder blew up so its away being fixed so thats halted the work on the exhaust and the rear cross member. but hopefully have it back soon and on the case.

Well ive been busy. Got the tow bar setup fitted its a fairly industrial solution lol


Exhausts refitted and finished just needs some cleaning and tidying up.



Pas res mounted and dipstick sorted and rear arches on the tub



Getting into buying some of the detail parts for the doors and interior.
