I've been busting for a suitable track car for quite a few years.

It was time to push on and get something organised.

I'd looked at MX5s as another contender, likewise with a classic Impreza Turbo. However I don't fix in MX5s comfortable, the Impreza I'd be worried would end up costing quite a bit to maintain, especially for track use.

The EP3 then steps in. The engine and gearbox are the main positives. However a fairly inert chassis needs a little work (an excellent aftermarket following helps loads).

So a few months of scouring the classifieds had me concerned a I may need to look beyond NI. I found most EP3s haven't been maintained (they best mates cousin twice removed serviced it, with no evidence). They had been lowered on eBay coilovers, clocked or were just heaps. In fairness to the cars, they must be pretty robust to still be running based on the condition of some.

A mate @aza89 was helping me look at cars. We nipped out of work one lunch time to look at one (I was dubious about the pre-facelift looks). It had tonnes of history, it was standard and nothing on the car was of major concern, beyond poo tyres, needing brakes etc.

I picked it up that night so on it goes.

Jonny @ AI Autosport was of superb advice as always, so the chain and tensioner was ordered (there was no evidence of it ever being replaced). He fitted these on record time, along with drop links, performing a leak down test, along with a thorough check over. All was reported healthy beyond the ball joins and tie rod ends showing a little wear.

The clean-up begins

I refurbished the gear knob with several coats of lacquer and added in the shift extension (a great little mod, especially when you buy a

Love the pre facelift. htd

Me too now after having it for a while. I really couldn't warm to the front end, but now I have it... I'd prefer to have a car in better condition...

Cleanest track car in the world

Really nice work

Cheers dude, this is me doing a rough and ready car :scream:

Looks really well!

You any plans for a LSD?

Cheers Andy, it will get an LSD at some stage. Dear knows what though.

I'm planning bushes, adjustable arms etc and a good alignment from @Neil Kirkpatrick .

The next stage will be coilovers and a possible half cage. WJ Blairs are happy to install it for me. Possibly LSD then.

Depending on how the brakes are holding up, I may either upgrade these or look at more power.

Looking good Neil. I may be selling my car next year btw;)

Thank you sir. Sorry to hear you are selling... What are your plans or moving to if I can ask?

Nice work Neil. Love your no half-assing approach. Should be a cracking track car.

Cheers Ian, I think she will be a good base too. Chassis is where the attention is needed IMO.

Love reading your threads!!!

HTD man!

Cheers Andy. I'll have to try and keep updating the three threads simultaneously :grinning:.

She's a great little wagon. It's nice being back into hot hatches.

I may have bought a few toys for the Civic in the Black Friday sales too :-#

Nice work and attention to detail.

Will you be attending kirkistown?
There is an ep3 that goes to kirkistown with a half cage and goes really well apparently its 240bhp, should be something to play with.

Me and a mate are building an b18 civic aerodeck on a shoe string, just gathering up service bits then the grinder will be out for big diet.

Kirkistown is my plan then go on from there :grinning:. I'll see how the first day goes. 240BHP with a half cage does sound perfect.

I've a full set of front and rear callipers from the EP3 if they are of use?

That almost looks too good for a track car lol would be some fun with a few toys put on it, ive a standard one and a hondatad one and the difference between the 2 is mental!

Well it's well cleaned up.

I'd imagine the difference is quite marked. It does definitely need it's VTEC engagement lowered and mapped to suit. But that caper is a little further down the line.

I'll hopefully see you down there next year then.

At the minute we will be sticking with the 282s but I'll keep you in mint if we need more stopping power but I can't see it we only have 170hp.
