Scrappage Scheme Grave Yard,March 2011

The Austin A35 was obviously loved by someone not so many years ago ..

Morris Minor looks respectable enough too, not to mention the blatant waste of modern stuff!

Think on how energy and raw materials it took to replace all those cars on the road.

Scrappage scheme = worst enviornmental disaster of the last 10 years

this illustrates perfectly why the prices and quality on gumtree have went up in terms of price and down in terms of quality.

God awful scheme, so hard to pick up parts for old cars now and so many great old cars being tossed away

This whole scheme was such a con............i bought my wifes fiesta before it started for £9100 brand new to order........The week the scheme started i priced exactly the same car from the same salesman (without mats, mudflaps and the free ford rally coat that i got) and it was 11400!!..............£9400 had i traded something that qualified as scrappage

I might be wrong here but i would say people were ripped off....plain and simple.......oh and the dealers got the £2k government credit for each car they scrapped....on top of the original value......

Really boils my blood to be honest how the government will intentionally take a hit on our money for publicity

We are all paying it back now with our fuel taxes and 20% VAT

But not to worry, the dealers have all new flashy showrooms and massive houses in Malone

thats bad, my dad would be raging as the waste of good passats lost to the scrappage scheme.

he tried to buy one destined for the scheme from lindsay ford at the time but they wouldnt budge. he even offered over the 2grand because it was in mint condition and low mileage.

Some ace drift and 4x4 snotters there, would be nice to give them a proper send off instead of going to scrap :p

Was thinking the same

Some amount of Disco's there, bound to find enough parts to get at least one running...

Lol, spot on (y)

The cheapest, and the most environmentally friendly car, is the one you already have.

(y) way too sensible for this government

This scheme was run by the last government, Mandelson's gift to car dealerships.

It's strange though that they seem to have them organised in rows of the same type of car?

I reckon some of these will end up in the breakers - especially that row of Minis. Could easily be sold to a Mini specialist.

Rover's!
Honestly, if the government auctioned them off they would make more money back. I know for a FACT theres a prototype Rover 75 that was using the freelander 4x4 running gear!!

Whatever
id say the vast majority of them are in far better nick than some of the cars that I have owned/driven in the past!

Absolute sickening waste. The government really dont have a clue.

I was annoyed when my sister scrapped her Puma, there was nothing wrong with it. Perfectly serviceable wee car, but it made more financial sense for her to scrap it, as it did with all the previous owners of those cars.
