A mate has a 2017 DSG Tiguan, which had to be recovered at the weekend due to a mechatronic fault.

New module is £1,879.06 + VAT from VW so he's looking into having his module refurbed.

Who is the best for this service?

Recommendations appreciated.

Ring Phillips and speak to Roy, they replaced mine under warranty but only VW dealer I would deal with.

Where is he based as I could give you a VW mechanic who does stuff for me.

This could possibly be the right one, ECUtesting have a pretty good reputation.
They did the abs ecu for my scirocco recently and did the multitronic module fix on the a4 avant I bought from someone on here too. Seemed to turn it round fast if you have a mechanic to do the removing and refitting

As @pizza85 mentioned, it was me that sent the gearbox module to ECU Testing on an A4. Top service and quick turnaround, no complaints here.

I've used ecu testing for a few things - usually abs modules - but no complaints from me.

I'd a 2018 golf dsg mechatronic unit recently give up. Dq381. Was one of pressure sensors became faulty.pressure sensor A. Unit Refurbished by ecu Testing around £440. New quality 6l of oils and new gearbox filter around £200.removed and fitted myself. Thankfully fixed the vehicle, going well now. Ecu Testing says its plug an play but it's not you need to preform a vcds dsg adaption. I had to send it off to them twice as was supposed to be plug and play. Had to get vcds an run dsg adaption to get all 100 percent.

Just a bit of a follow up.

My mate took the Tiguan to Autotech just off the Ormeau road and they say the entire gearbox needs replaced. Sounds strange.

Does anyone have any experience of these guys?

Would there be any VAG specialists that you’d recommend instead?

Where would he travel to, I’m happy to pass on the vw mechanics number (he works for VW) and he could have a chat?

Mine was a unit in my Tiguan and definitely not a gearbox but Philips sorted mine.

Give the Service department a shout here, they are working on DSG boxes every week.

When my Cupra gearbox went charles hurst sub contracted it out to a specialist in Castlereagh Alan McVeigh. Seemed very good and honest told me hurst wouldn't let him source his own parts etc rang me straight away and even told me he wasn't happy with what hursts supplied him. Sure enough 2 months later the gearbox went again. Wouldn't say it was anything down to him he handled the whole thing very well considering his hands were tied by charles hurst, would use him again.

I’ve had good experiences with Alan McVeigh too. Seems very honest and straight forward.

I’ve used Alan too. Did have an issue with the workmanship but was resolved and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.
