Just wondering about cross compatability of two things here... Im sure scrob will be able to tell me....

Right, will these bolt straight onto a 1600 Zetec Engine...

St170 Manifold
1800 Throttle Body

Should free up 2 or 3 ponies... of they fit (y)

Cheers

The ST170 uses a Duratec engine with variable valve timing, I'm nearly sure this is completely different to the zetec.

Could be wrong tho!

yeah the duratec is different.

also which 1.6 zetec is it? an old steel block from an escort? or an alloy block from a fiesta/focus ?

Nope - ST170 manifold will not fit onto a 1.6

Will only fit onto a 1.8 or 2l and in which case you'd have upgrade your fuel line too so it doesn't catch fire.

Also, as far as i am aware, upgrading the throttle body does not give any real benefits on the 1.6

Piper just began making a tubular manifold due to demand on the FFOC forum in January /February this year.

Persoally, i opted for a Viper induction kit and cat back scorpion exhaust. Saw gains of 12 bhp on 4 rolling road attempts. Also visit www.ffoc.co.uk ;-)

if you want a few extra pony's, jack her up at the fuel tank, you will see a we black box, remove the cover, in there you will find a fuel return/proportioning valve, screw at it a bit at a time, take her a few runs up the road to find out which is driving best
done this to a fez myself, and it did make a difference, as it was set low for emissions

never knew that.. must try this on mine. alltho with the new regulator ive fitted and the apex'i safc-2 thats soon to be wired in im a bit worried about the fuel lines coping.. ive blown one off already and had to replace it. :confounded:

most duratec bits wont go on zetecs. the throttle body should go right on tho. why not just use an 1800 or 2000 zetec intake manifold with the 1800 tb?

youve got problems if your blowing off fuel lines- check youve not got the regulator back to front.

youd be getting about 150psi instead of 45 and your pump would burn out in 10 miles

fixed that little hickup day after i installed the regulator (when the line blew). im near positive the line in question was on its way out.. the stupid plastic ford engineered connector on the end of the line was half broken, not had any issues other than that and have done hundreds of miles since then.

whats your take on this steven? is it worth screwing with that proportioning valve or not? keep in mind i am going turbo after i obtain all the bits and peices i need and i will have the safc-2 in sometime in the next week or so.

Not familiar with the 1600 zetec in your scort richy but I assume its pretty similar to the newer zetec-s/se that comes in the Focus. In which case neither the 1800 throttle body nor the st manifold will fit.

Whoever said duratec is completely different to zetec, its not, "apparently" all that different....but yes it does use vvt.

For zetec tuning, steven gault has countless experience. I'm sure he is the man to ask. I would assume a set of carbs and a decent 4 branch manifold would be down your street; however you have the problem of converting fuel injection to carbs, plus the problem of locating a set of carbs and having them jetted etc. Throttle bodies would eb the job but mapping costs would be expensive..

For a cheaper option, you could try and port your own throttle body, find a set of cams, 4 branch manifold and pull the cat out of her, oh and get a good cold air feed to the air box and put in a decent filter element. Have fun ;)

i was toying with the idea of a one off TB using random parts from various fiesta/puma TB's. havent seen enough to know if there would be a point to it. would be handy if some had bigger wheels for the throttle cable than others, bigger TB, smaller wheel and polish the crap out of the inside of the TB.

Random parts like what? A throttle body is basically just that..... a body that has a butterfly in it. And whats this wheel for the throttle cable you're talking about? I take it you're talking about the end of the spindle the cable attaches to? Why would it need to be bigger or smaller? And don't bother touching the inside of the throttle body unless you know what youre at, especially the area around the butterfly. Theres more to inlet systems than just the throttle body.

i know.. if i were going to go through the trouble of perfecting a TB id need a decent intake manifold to make the best of it. ofcourse then theres hea work but that costs real money..
