Have been experiencing some problems with my 96 ZX 1.9TD which I assume has the XUD engine.

Bascially I have noticed that sometimes when I'm flat out on the way to work (as much as 95BHP diesels go lol) it can cut off the turbo way too early. Other times it does not come on at all and feels like a straight diesel but more strangely is the fact that other times when I am in mid gear change I hear air like a really quiet dump valve :confounded:

Have been speaking to the Bessman and he has advised that there is a chance that I could be dealing with a split or dosed boost pipe (my best case scenario worked out) which obviously would be great news as opposed to being a turbo about to sh*t itself.

Question is thou, my best way to get at it to have a look and if this is common, where to start looking? Any other ideas of what it could possibly be in case I'm barking up the wrong tree?

Chars in advance!

Does that engine have an air flow meter? Your problem sounds identical to what I had on an Audi S3...turned out to be both an air flow meter and a split hose.

No air flow meter, mechanical injection

Sounds like a split pipe to me.

old skool pre 96
seanbob, first check the intercooler pipes. not too hard as its on top (just the way i like my women lol)(y) the only turbo that gives jip is the kk if memory serves me rite:sob:

theres a load of movement within the engine bay on the old xu,s, youll prob find this movement is opening up a hose.

jack her up at the front and follow the intercooler hoses,ya cant go wrong, youll end up under the rear of the engine at the exhaust down pipe and steering rack to pick up on the the turbo;)
ive had a few 3dr volcanes, any probs gimme a shout(y)(y)

Check the gasket between the intercooler and the inlet manifold too, rubber one that stretches over time.

If its a worse case senario and you need a turbo just gimme a shout, i have a couple here that'll be sold at handy money, kkk or garrett.
