The fourth and final round of the D1 Irish Drift Series was held yet again at its Tipperary venue of Rosegreen. Myself, Graham and cameraman Stuart made our way down on the Sunday morning in the Senator, looking forward to a dry day of sideways action.

We arrived shortly after 11am and almost immediately I was out on track for my practice run. Also from the north was Alan McBride in his newly purchased Omega MV6, Mark Luney in his R32 Skyline, Dave McNeill in his XR4 Sierra and Richard (Fast Cav) in his now running Carlton GSi. Familiar faces from the other events included Damien Mulvey, Buttsy, Jonathon Murphy, Graham and Junior from CruiseIrl was creating zoom lens envy everywhere with his sizable Canon camera.

A very high standard of drifting was again displayed right from the start. Most notable cars of the day included Robbie from Track Day Performance with his stunning red R34 GTR Skyline and there was a Mk3 Escort Cosworth (rear wheel drive) also out drifting but neither made it into the top 16. A bit like myself! The track was bone dry which meant plenty of tyre smoke and lots more grip.

Alan, Richard and Mark made it through to the top sixteen but unfortunately Alan’s power steering gave up and the Omega was out. Richard and Mark went onto the top eight and were pitted against each other. Their twin drifting was a very close battle until Richard spun off so Mark was through to the top four.

The top four were put out on the big oval track for some very exciting high speed drifting. After a very tight contest between Mark and Damien Mulvey he was given second place, with gold S13 driving Damien taking first and winning the championship, beating Mark by one point. Mental S14 driver Jonathon Murphy clinched 3rd.

Results of the Final Round:
1st – Damien Mulvey
2nd – Buff (Mark Luney)
3rd – Jonathon Murphy

Overall Championship
1st – Damien Mulvey
2nd – Mark Luney
3rd – Mike Deane

From what I gather there will be another series next year with hopefully some new drifting venues, and there will be more non-championship events at Rosegreen before the end of the year.
