The City of Lisburn will host some 40 Ferraris in cavalcade as a group of Dutch drivers raise funds for the Mayor’s Charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation. Locals and visitors alike will witness Lisburn coming alive as the much-fancied Ferraris are showcased through the City centre at approximately 3.30pm on Saturday 26 April.

The Ferrari Club of the Netherlands will be visiting Northern Ireland as part of the charity fundraising efforts, involving hundreds of children participating in events organised by the Club.
The Ferraris will then be on show from approximately 4pm at Lisburn City Council’s headquarters at Lagan Valley Island, with visitors welcomed to view the awesome spectacle. Lisburn City Council is supporting the project and will host a dinner on the night for arguably the fastest guests from Europe.

In addition, the Ferraris will take part in a PSNI escorted drive through the province, to promote the ‘don’t drink and drive’ campaign.

Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, Cllr Allan Ewart said: “Lisburn City Council is privileged to welcome the Ferrari Club of the Netherlands to the City of Lisburn and I am certainly looking forward to seeing Lagan Valley Island in full colour with the signature red of Ferrari. I hope that a great deal of fundraising is generated through this initiative and would encourage people to come along next Saturday 26th to witness the large number of Ferrari’s driving through the City Centre and then parked at the Civic Centre.”

Commenting on the event, Chair of Ferrari Club NL, Robert Harper (originally from Ballynahinch) said: “As a long-time resident of the Netherlands and member of the Ferrari Club, it gives me a great thrill to bring so many enthusiastic members to my home country, to experience the beauty of the country and the friendliness of the people. The club has in recent years organised five successive events with the Dutch Make-a-Wish organisation, so to be able to help Make-a-Wish in Northern Ireland gives an added dimension to the visit.

“To crown it all, my contacts with Lisburn City Council arose out of their being one of the most active bodies in promoting business relations between Northern Ireland and The Netherlands and, with Make-a-Wish being the Mayor’s chosen charity this year, everything just came together in a wonderful way. We very much appreciate Lisburn’s generosity and hope that we can make a valuable contribution to the City’s activities.”

The Ferrari Club of the Netherlands will be travelling from Holland to England on 24 April, catching an overnight ferry to Newcastle before driving straight to Stranraer the following day for the ferry across to Belfast. The group will then stay in Ireland, North and South, for the next 8 days taking in the sites and attractions of the various towns and villages visited before embarking on the ferry once again from Cork across to Roscoff, France
