The International Geneva Motorshow (Salon International de l’Auto) is Europes premier motor show and brings out car manufacturers from all over the world – along with many niche boutique manufacturers and everything else in-between lining up alongside them. With the variety on show from super cars, hot hatches to every day family cars and wacky concept cars, there is something for everyone.

For 2014 – some of the highlights of new cars on show included the latest Audi TT, Ferrari California T, Honda Civic Type R, Lamborghini Huracan, Volkswagen Golf GTE and the Nissan GT-R NISMO.

Once you arrive at the Palexpo Convention Centre which is just a few minutes walk from the train station. The first port of call is a huge floor dedicated to car and motoring accessories where companies like Meguiars, Brembo and many others have stands dedicated to their products. Here you can view demonstrations (in German and French) and take part in challenges. But the products and companies on show are not just limited to private car owner; there is a lot aimed people who work within the industry as well such as car lifts, washes, wheel balancers and just about anything else you could think of.

When I had passed through the Accessories hall I was in familiar territory and into the first of 6 massive halls dedicated to showcasing the cars. When making my way about its easy to find where the latest offerings of Ferrari, McLaren and other supercar manufacturers are – you just look for the wall of people. Despite the large crowds, the show is quite easily navigable even if it does become quite busy at times. You are also allowed to enter and get in and around in the vast majority of cars as well which I think is great.

Supercars aside, for me the highlight had to be range of Audi cars. The new S1 and TT both look really impressive and if both are anywhere near as good as they appear, they will be big hits. This years show left me with a lot of good memories and a long list of what I would like to buy if I ever win the lottery.

The Geneva Motor Show runs in March each year and costs 16chf entry (~11) and 11chf (~6) for children. For that price it represents unbelievable value and is leagues ahead of anything on these shores. It is also easily accessible and do-able in 1 day as I have done before by flying from Belfast International at 6am and getting the return flight at 8.30pm in the evening. It is a long day but for any car enthusiast I highly recommend it.
