On Friday night I got a call to be at the track nice and early on Saturday morning from Philip Shields Team Manager of Breezemount Motorsport who always has the best of kit when it comes to race cars. Some of his past cars have been a 1964 E-type jag race car, Porsche 997 GT3 race car, 2 Junos, Radicals and a Ferrari challenge 360 and a few more.

When I arrived I was greeted to one of his new GP2 Cars sitting in the garage, shortly after I arrived, A1GP Champion and former F1 reserve & test driver Adam Carroll and his Engineer arrived to give Phils car the first shakedown and setup.

After a while rigged up to the laptops and everything all set on the car, Adam was ready to go. He left the garage sideways. After a few 8 lap sessions he was on a mission, the car was 100% and he was comfortable to drive the car at full pace in the wet. The noise and speed of this thing was unreal.

As the day went on the times started to come down close to the lap record at Kirkistown which is a 51.44 (set in the dry) on his final session of the day Adam managed to get a new unofficial lap record of 51.00 (in the wet).

Both Adam and the Philip Shields were very pleased. Adam reckons that the car could do a 46-47 seconds lap in dry conditions and on new slick tyres.

It should be a very interesting racing season at Kirkistown this year as Philip has both of the Isport GP2 Cars one of which won the GP2 Championship in the hands of Timo Glock. Another F1 driver Karun Chandhok has also drove this car, aswell as both cars winning the Gp2 Asia Championship two years in a row. The sister team car which Philip also owns has had success with Bruno Senna and Scott Speed behind the wheel.

The Kirkistown Race season starts in March/April
