The Nutts Corner stock car track was the location for yesterdays lets go ‘nutts’ event! Although it was a cold, wet and windy day the stock car oval saw everything from scrapers to super cars. The cars started to arrive shortly after 12 o’clock and by around 2pm there was a selection of the finest cars from all over the country.

The show kicked off with a diffing “ free for all” around the oval by not only the various sierras and Twin cams parked around eager to get into the ring, but also by numerous Mitsubishi Evo`s and BMW`s. With there being 14 cars or more on the relatively small oval at the one time all competing for the 1st place for diffing, there really was plenty of action to keep everyone entertained. After about half an hour of the circular show, the cars entered in the show and shine categories were called to make an appearance onto the track for a few parade laps to show both the judges and the spectators their cars. The judges came around the cars one at a time inspecting engine bays, boot builds and bodywork. Once each car had been seen by the judges, the cars and their drivers were instructed to drive around the stadium for the crowd to see them, whilst the judges made their final decisions. The prizes up for grabs were best boot build, best sound system, cleanest engine, best modified engine, novice and expert Bodystyling and then car of the show.

Once the judges had come to their conclusions, the winning cars were instructed to turn of from the oval and park in the centre to be awarded with their trophies and for a few quick photos before the second diffing session started.

After the cars had shown the crowds and the judges their stuff, it was time for the racing to start. Anyone could compete. The car was given a transponder to record lap times and given 4 laps to set their times. After about 6 goes the early leader was a white Evo who proved a hard pace to match. Next came Buff. Mark after a little demo of his sideways skills put his BMW M5 into 1st place beating the Evo by about half a second. Once finished there was a bit of a surprise to all those who had wait on despite the wet conditions, in to the ring came a yellow Ferrari 360 Modena for a few rings!!!! The car was stunning but the performance proved too much for the wet conditions and made the diffing very difficult.

On the whole a great day had by all, even with the weather. Hopefully with the sucess of the first one there will be another “Nutts” show!
