Winter was certainly apt to describe the VW meeting at Oxford Island. A cold afternoon didn’t deter some of Ireland’s finest VAG (Volkswagon Audi Group) cars turning out on the day including stunning examples of the first four generations of the Golf GTi. Surprisingly there were no Mk 5 cars – the more old school the better it seems among these enthusiasts.

Of course there were several cars from the local Club GTi crew and most notably from RMS was Steven Robb’s recently finished Mk2 GTi. His stunning example of an early mk 2 now boasts the big bumpers from a facelift GTi, but what’s more, this late eighties car has been in the Robb family from new making it one of the most original and genuine cars about.

This event had created great interest on the forum and as expected there was a plethora of modified and performance vehicles lined up and down the car park. A new Impreza WR1 sat beside an equally as new Lancer Evo 8 FQ-330 along with Maxer’s mint MR2 turbo and Mook’s concours Cavalier Turbo.

Andy is the founding member of RMS, and when he's not following motoring events around the UK and Ireland he can be found on the track (sideways, having competed in top level drifting for a decade), or of course he'll be on the forum.
