it's my first auto car so I have nothing to compare it too, but it seems a bit revvy of itself, id like it to change gear a bit sooner than it does sometimes

I can't get over the crap fuel economy o mine. This was my journey to work this morning. View attachment 140782

Try changing it from sport mode to see if it makes any difference, sport will hold the revs a bit longer.

Why buy a diesel if the mpgs that bad? Unless it likes ribena of course.

Well I expected much better mpg given the fact it is a blue efficiency model with low miles etc, i was expecting at least high 30s

believe it or not sport mode is handier run than eco mode

The 4 cylinder mercs tend to be a bit revy with the Auto box. Always wished our 03 C220 would be limited to 4,000k as when the doors on the floor it goes past that and doesn't gain any speed and won't change gear unless you lift off a little.

The 5 cylinder E270 is far better, doesn't run out of puff before changing gear

I can't believe how had it is, our old c220 gets nearly 50mpg floating about omagh from shop to shop and also a blast up and down the motorway at 80mph, over 50 easily on a relaxing cruise about and normal speeds.

You would be better in a v6 petrol.

so back to square one, have standard springs back in and not a squeek or noise from it,

my mechanic cant understand what was causing it, he did notice that the rear control(not sure if this is right) arms were very close together when lowered?

Ive coilovers ordered but not sure if this will solve the issue when it goes down from standard height

just thought I would bump this up

ended up getting apex springs fitted and right from the start knocking noises all over again,

after trying a few things, my mechanic ended up removing the front 2 springs and putting rubber sleeves over coils which had been hitting eachother,

not a knock/noise out of it since and have done few thousand mile, odd that we had to do that but solved it anyways

guys just bumping this thread up again as still having problems

As above when we put rubber springs over the coils it stopped it for a while but they obviously wore away and was very noisy again

decided enough was enough changed springs again to a different set and no better

ended up now spending £765 on BC Racing coilovers and still problems:mad::mad: everytime I got over a slight bumpthe front left is rattling/clunking/knocking

car has been mot'd twice in this time, and 2 mechanics checked and can't diagnose/fix it

even with brand new expensive coilovers fitted it is the same, wonder what it could be? OR can anyone recommend someone who specialises in suspension setup

Have you tried Creevy Autos on the Ballygowan road? They were very knowledgeable when I had the Mercedes- maybe they could help.

If you have changed the whole suspension units, it is likely to be something else, possibly arb bushes or droplinks, have these been replaced recently?

I recall chasing an issue on my fabia many years back for a knock, never failed MOT, I replaced all the suspension components but arb bushes and it was still there. Then replaced them, and that was it gone. Not saying to do the same, but it is worth looking into, and that will likely be the cheapest point to start. Unfortunately, it could be a case of trial and error with a few components, otherwise you will end up replacing the whole suspension setup just to stop it.

It was your anti roll bar bushes in the end? I have had new droplinks fitted that came with the coilovers, I must check a few bushes but I know the mechanic did look at a few but not sure which ones, you would think a MOT would pick up on it

On the fabia it was arb bushes. A visual inspection when on the car and I didn’t notice anything wrong, but when I removed them and compared them with new, you could see a slight stretch in the hole, so refitted the new ones and the noise was gone. I had a thread on here about it. Will find it and post a link

Edit: suspension knocking noise

Yikes-9years ago. Time flies.

Front hydro/control arm bushings?

Seems common enough from a quick Google.

that appears to be a completely different problem, mine is when travelling on any road bar a very flat surface when hit a small bump its like something is "jiggling/rattling"

Takes very little play in an ARB bush to cause an awful lot of noise, would have thought one of the mechanics would have checked that though, as far as MOT, unless the ARB is hanging off it wouldn't be an issue.

I had a bad knocking in the front of my car for a long time and couldn’t find play in anything, changed the antiroll bar bushes and it was sorted. Worth a try for the cost.

Yes well they came with the coilovers and knocking was before it so would rule them out

Yes think I am going to investigate the arb bushes and top mounts

I'd temporarily remove the drop links and go for a drive to eliminate them being at fault. Should be the easiest thing to rule out
