Glass polishing

I recently deleted the rear wiper from the Civic and would now like to have the glass on the outside scratch free. Kinda difficult to see the scratches in the photo, but you know what I'm talking about. Is there something I can cut and polish it with, are does it need washed with the back of a claw hammer?

Probably a hammer, my front one has a few scores from the dealership and Pete/PMG said they can’t be removed. I need a new screen

There are specific da/rotary mf type pads which with a glass polish might give you the best result you will get against glass

But as I've never actually tried it I wouldn't be able up recommend it or not

I know a lot of guys don't like to polish a windscreen for safety reasons, if it is at all possible to remove a layer of it, but as you're talking about the rear glass there's not much impact resistance needed so might be worth a go

I know what scoring you mean as I've a sweeping area on mine which regardless of how well I clean inside and out there's still the outline of where the wiper has trailed for many years of use

The best way to clean glass is to polish it, it is the best way to remove road film and leave it clean. Any rough cut polish and firm foam pad will do, or to get into the corners use a microfibre cloth on your finger, dont worry you aren't going to damage the glass, this will not improve any scratches. To remove scratches you will need a rotary and specialist glass polishing compound and pads cerium oxide is the compound you need to go for.

But be warned this stuff is very messy!

Thanks @Mark@PD I'll give the firm pad/cut polish a go.

Bare in mind it's a slow process whatever route you take.

Also watch the heat the glass too :grinning:.

My civic is the same, fine scrapes from years of use and a line where the wiper stops which is right in my line of vision 8-(

A very long time ago I had quite a bit of success removing scratches on my windscreen using autoglym glass polish and a rotary buff. It took forever and was only a couple of scratches but did the job.

i used this stuff yonks ago on a rear window that had heavy scoring from base of a split rear wiper blade. score was a few cms thick and arc'd round 120degree. done a great job at polishing out the scores so that they weren't as noticeable

Cutting compounds won't take scratches out of glass. You'll have to use Ceriglas (cerium oxide) with a rayon glass polishing disc, but it is incredibly slow going, will generate a lot of heat, which you'll need to watch, and you will likely refract the glass if you do eventually work your way down through the scratches.

Have a chat with your insurance company about a replacement screen due to the scratches

Good luck.

What about taking away old watermarks on glass, would the polishes above get rid of them? My back windows especially show it up, maybe because of the tints?
