Its Like a Periscope, Gordon must have good
Reason for it tho.. he has been developing that car for over 20years!

It made 411hp at the wheels, a standard E39 M5 makes around 340hp at the wheels so im pleased that some of the bolts on's made a difference!

Altering the bonnet really would be the last resort!!

Plan is to get creative with ducting some air, i will try to direct / duct the hot air from radiator away from the Trumpets and if all that isnt sufficient ill make a pair of airboxes something like these -

View attachment 336634

Tried to Tax the car 3 times today but there seemed to be a Glitch with Postoffice / Dvla software.. ill have another go tomorrow, would love to get it out a scoot on Sunday to see
What falls off First!
I had some very high air temperatures when the sensor was mounted the air filter base plate, i ended up fitting the air sensor under the front panel so the fuel air comps are for the outside ambient temperature. When car is moving the air into the intakes is reduced via my scoop. So if you use some ducting this may also help.

What age is it ? Is it not free tax yet ? I just did mine a few days ago.

Its Not Tax free until the new year or next April - just MOT Exempt Currently

I got the car collected yesterday - as usual plenty for jobs to be done..

Had a good chat about the heat management and came up with a plan for functional a full blocker plate that runs from the front panel back.

On the Dyno Robbie overcame the heat issue as best possible using a piece of timber, I will make something that fits snuggly and is easily removed on quick latches from Composite Aluminium panelling and maybe later out of Carbon if it proves to work.

I don't like hiding the mechanicals but it has to function

I did take it for a quick drive around the Road I live on, no further because its untaxed & got another oil leak

I need Loads of wee odds and ends done to make it much nicer to drive, a clutch stop and a heavier Throttle return springs on the pedal.

On this short run It pulled a V-Band off the exhaust catching on something on the road - so those are going to be consumables (more in the post)

Can anyone recommend any where locally (Belfast) that specialises in Springs or carry a large stock of springs?

I have measured an open and closed length but no idea of the poundage that is currently installed or the what I would need..

Tension Application - 80mm Closed / 120mm Open

Few spring options, don't know anyone local unless the likes of Kennedy & Morrison still exist on Boucher Rd.

Thinking about an Airbox / shield, would it not be easier and less intrusive to form a box using the fixings for the intake trumpets under the filters and with sides that seal against the bonnet and two cold air feeds heading out to the front somewhere in front of the rad?

Or, carbon universal plenum from the likes of Reverie and trunked to cones out the front somewhere cool.

You can get forged / billet v-band clamps depending on the profile which would be more robust if you are going to be at risk of taking a lot of hits.

I did look at a couple of options, pipercross do a PX600 which would even fit my backing plate.. but apparently the car will need mapped again if I change the inlet setup.

Thank you for the links for the springs, ill make have to see how to measure the rate of mine somehow to get a ballpark and order from 'Lee Spring' or similar!

Will give Kenneday and Morrison a shout in the Morning, that would be dead handy if they did carry options.

It would, but they wouldn't be starting from scratch so it would be a quicker process, just that with the airflow alterations some parts of map may be lean and other rich.

Might be worth doing if it means you can run the best airbox setup? I've found on NA engines, getting them supplied with as cold and as fresh air as you can makes a good difference.

Correct but at this stage I just want to use the car and resolve the many other issues it will throw at me..

I'm going to move forward with directing the heat away from the trumpets, its not short on power as it is and its purely a safety precaution

I'll attend to the airboxes after getting some value from the car is its sits, it will be going back to TDP next year again to finalise the Paddle shift setup too (again providing the rest of the package pleases me)

Long overdue getting out in it and putting some miles on it. There will be other things to sort no doubt once you get some miles on it so just add it to the list.
I can only imagine the feeling of being behind the wheel of something you have spent so long getting to this stage.

I'd do exactly the same in your position. (y)

@slickcell will knock you up a nice carbon one

Knock up a template from cardboard or fibreglass.

Well, it didnt take rocket science to calculate the Tension spring poundage...

example-a-formula-diagram.jpg

A steel rule and a Set of scales i was able to ascertain they where ~7lb/in so i ordered some 11lb/in springs of similar dimensions from Lee Spring that @FM155 suggested!

That has given a nicer weight to the pedal!

Heat Barrier is underway -

1st mock up in place from Hard Board, I will draw it up tonight on AutoCAD and have to CNC'd from Composite aluminium panelling..

s-l500.jpg

3mm thick - 0.5mm Alloy sheets over a 2mm polyethylene core - light, stiff & available

Avon Slicks & Pirelli Wets have arrived from my F3 contact - so maybe i will manage to get some wheels built up and some kind of test in before the end of October!

For most part, that looks like it will massively reduce the radiators ability to get rid of hot air, potentially leading to overheating..

Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

It didnt have any cooling issues with the timber in place on the dyno..

So i guess it shouldnt on the track but yet do as designed to push 100deg hot rad air back toward the exhausts cooling them from 600+degs & also keeping the hot air away from the trumpets to reduce inlet temps.

I guess ill find out but this is what i was advised to do as a safety measure (y)

Don't see how it could make much difference to the radiator as its not that far from the bonnet that I can see it being much different to before. And I do not believe you run a vented bonnet?

Of course a V mount with a bonnet exit vent would be the best way to set it up but I imagine you didn't do that for the same reason I don't run one on the Datsun, because its not as good looking.

I probably could route the air out the bonnet before the engine - but I don't want to cut the bonnet, if I wanted to cut the bonnet I probably wouldn't even have dry sumped the engine and mounted it all abit higher. Standard / Classic bodywork was a must :grinning:

I'm having it out with DVLA over getting the car taxed.. So i have had to tax it via the post with all the supporting documentation which takes 6-10 weeks.

The Car isn't ready for a full test day, but more of a shakedown..

This may sound slightly ropey - but can anyone recommend a large open space on the outskirts of Belfast that i can properly check the brakes, run through the gearbox & see what falls off etc etc.

I tried to do this around where i live but running a 70mph 1st gear will cause issues with the other residents

PM me if there anywhere you'd rather not share with the world.

Check with Kirkistown and see if they can let you on some time mid week for testing. Have a chat with Donal from Trackskills, he'll point you in the right direction.

You don't want to do testing on public roads, definitely not in built up areas. And definitely not without road tax.
