No debating they are quick off the line, but that’s it. Difficult to compare it with something, but they just don’t give you the feel and thrill that a fast ICE powered car does. I think I can be describe them as “clinical“

I dunno tbh, I took took the slip road off Sandyknowes towards Antrim in the bosses Polestar the other day and let out a high pitched squeek as I approached lightspeed. Haven’t made a squeek in an ICE car before.

Can’t say I’ve made a squeak, but every time I drive my car it puts a smile on my face. And I don’t have to be doing warp speed either, to me that’s the mark of a good/fun car, you don’t have to be going flat out for it to be fun.

I was about to say, you can have more satisfaction with half the power in an ICE car.

Plus, it's unlikely you've driven a petrol engined car that's like for like on paper. If you have, you'd have squeaked. But possibly down at the Other end 🤣

Anyone else come up with a car that will do a 3.Xs 0-60, no road tax, negligible fuel costs, near negligible BIK and the government will literally give you almost half the purchase price back in income tax savings or let you write off lease costs?
I wouldn't care if it had a prototype nuclear fusion reactor in the boot as a power source, sign me up!

Your changing the parameters of your argument against electric cars. You mentioned fast ICE cars, I replied and now your comparing to a sports car. Not all sports cars are fast cars and not all fast cars are sports cars, I don’t think anyone gets into a Tesla 3 expecting an Elise down a country road experience but you do get a fun experience.

You've never sat inches off the bumper off the rear bumper drafting a ford Escort in a 1.1 saxo doing 115 along the Movilla road before have you :joy:

What if it's not a company car?

I suspect your speedo may have been as optimistic as the “EV’s Help The Environment” crowd.

I think the fact Pete himself said in the first post it’s a bit of a dull drive in comparison to the M4 makes the turning his members car thread into an electric boring vs ICE conversation a bit of a moot argument lol. A luxury daily driving electric car, and an M4/Cayman to use at the weekend. That’s a winner!

I’m far from an electric car fan but if I did a lot of commuting and could afford one for that purpose alongside keeping the Mustang for weekend/any other driving, I’d have one sitting in the drive tomorrow. Health to drive!

yes but think back a few years to the mclaren f1. -
stated 3.2 secs to 60.
gold lined engine bay etc etc.
total state of the art as good as it can possibly get.
& here we are, with a not particularly pretty car for not supercar money rewriting the rules.
I'll not be driving one anytime soon but you must admire the leap in technology.
the game has changed 😳

I agree that the driving experience is muted but that’s it’s strength and precisely the reason I bought it.

Here are some facts though if you are just talking about what it’s capable off.

- I’ve covered around 900miles it so far and it hasn’t cost me a single penny.

- on a twisty B road it would leave both my cayman and M4 for dead, they could neither out handle it, brake as aggressively or pull out of an apex the way the tesla can. I reckon you could put it down a back road against the likes of an Elise and it would absolutely smash it to pieces. The steering actually feels great on it and the grip and point to point punch is quite simply astonishing.

- there isn’t much joy in the drive but I haven’t driven any other vehicle that can relax you anywhere as much as this, and I’ve driven a lot of range rovers, Bentley Bentegyas and a phantom. That blows my mind. For commuting and just trundling about the place it’s actually unrivalled except by bigger Teslas lol.

- the interior is probably the cars single biggest strength to me, it is the most intuitive car I have ever driven. You don’t need buttons you can do absolutely everything you need to through voice command or the car is already doing it for you on its own.

Comparing a Tesla Model 3 to a Boxster isn’t a good comparison. Compare it to an RS3, I would have the Tesla every time, noise is the only thing the RS3 does better. Well that and it’s ugly wee frog face 😂 but I’m pretty sure when I’ve finished what I’m doing it will be a pretty decent looking car 😎

You still get the low running costs, easy silent relaxing drive, instant torque and high performance even if it’s privately owned. Yes they are expensive but so is the equivalent 3 Series or A4 etc.

I had a drive in a colleagues Tesla Model S and the acceleration was mind bending. It shifted so fast I actually felt a bit queasy. The interior was nice and airy and felt like it was decent quality, if a bit minimalist. When you consider the complexity of an ICE they make little sense as a vehicle engine when compared to an electric motor.

Maybe it’s been already asked and I’ve missed it but can the TCS be completely turned off on these for skids via the screen? The only way to do it on the id3s and 4s I work on is to pull the ABS fuse (don’t ask how I know 👀)

Unreal Pete.

100% with you on Teslas too. Would have one in the morning if it stacked up.

Buying a Tesla for cheap running costs seems the equivalent of buying a £100 raffle ticket for the chance to win a tenner

Why? Isn’t an equivalent brand new premium quality ICE car not about the same price?? Therefore the low running costs and minimal maintenance of the Tesla still make it a winner. And taking out whether they are nice to not as most of the population don’t care what their car drives like so will be more than happy with lower running costs.

It has to cost something Pete, unless your electricity is free. I appreciate probably nothing in comparison to fuel, but there is a cost associated with charging it. No?
