Wee buns to him, he loves all that stuff haha.

It would have been a mess if I started it.
Knows his stuff tbf. I could be a Cnut about him as he’s a mate but I’ll not 😂

Dash on his own 106gti rally car is class, whole wiring on it is.

I was thinking of calling up to Gerard’s for cuppa Tay and have a look at what he’s up to.

Car got dropped back to me Friday, took a bit longer due to the usual parts delay atm and some other uncontrollable circumstances but I’m well pleased with what came back. Just waiting to get a date for the tuner, hopefully shouldn’t be to far away.

Loom is exactly how I wanted and is extremely neat, photos below should speak for themselves. He is on Facebook as GNE motorsport controls if anyone wants this type of work done.

Going to make the most of the time now to finish out the car a bit more and help get it ready for an mot.

All being well I hope to have it at dubshed in April, after that my stag weekend is organised for players classic which is an event that has been a big drive to build it to this extreme.

Following that it has a role at my wedding in October and once that is over it’s time to get it out and use It a bit. Hopefully we will get a few track days to start and take it from there.

Cheers for looking

Got a wee look round this on 29th Dec @jayme after rallying with him that day. long time since I was closely looking round one, forgot how small they were 😂 awesome little machine tho and that engine looks lovely. Gerard’s wiring is great looking as well and really suits the cars style.

Haha, the pug is some machine. It has an impressive spec list aswell.

No not much size to them. Inside with the seat mounted decently low and back they are alright as a 2 seater, climbing out of them with your arse on the floor however isn’t graceful, reminds me of a dropped mx5.

Aye tight bita money spent on it, great going little car.

Aye the 106 is huge in comparison 😂 surprisingly solid feeling tho, made from proper steel back then.

He was talking about Evo's here on Friday, I doubt he couldn't pass the 106 though. Sounds like he has the same problem I have, emotionally and too financially invested.....

Probably about 210bhp

The decision to either spend more money on that car or sell and buy the like of an R2 fiesta or something factory built.

Another chap id know has taken that plunge for an R2 Fiesta, its an impressive bit of kit. overall quality and support for a car straight of a production line is hard to beat. No self engineering out problems, even the ability to buy spares of the shelf is a life saver on its own.

Had a few quiet weeks waiting around so I started ticking off the little jobs. First was trim the front arch for clearance on lock, was a task I really didn’t want to do but needs must.

Followed by a bit of tweaking to look at ride heights

6FF968C9-5A91-414A-9EE2-658840DED4AA.jpeg

And possibly one of the more enjoyable tasks, kit out the remainder of the interior, it’s far from finished but the back is broke.

With that done the phone call came Thursday night to get the car up to Steven Gault, panic to get a trailer and a night of watching the weather praying for the snow to stop. Next morning we loaded it up and off she went.

1B4E8101-86CA-4129-8347-CCB5779039F6.jpeg

That was last Saturday, Wednesday night I got a photo of it displaying rpm on a laptop meaning that it was running. Thursday however a text came through saying “can you ring me now”, I’d be lying if I said my heart didn’t sink, anyone building a car to this extent before will know what it’s like. Bottom line was I needed to come get it and fix some problems, but the good news was they where small in the grand scheme of things.

That prompted the mad panic to get another trailer which we ended up buying between me and the brother, and on schedule off we headed and home she came

64FFC079-DD93-49F2-8341-D63789226AF2.jpeg

In short the driveshafts popped out of the diff pots, suspicion is it’s due to excess camber. Cause specifically I don’t know, but my arms are from what I remember near the full in position.

The positive however is it runs and he made a start in getting it mapped. Another 2/3 hours would finish it in told. And well it sounds fairly punchy

Plan of attack is to fix the small list and get it back up asap.

Cheers for
Looking

Huge milestone dude 👍 Steven can be a man of few words when busy, Id love to have aene your face at the text. 😂 Like you said, small little teething problems, It's nearly there now and atleast you know it'll be left right and running perfectly.

Thats not untrue haha, I kind of like that, straight to the point. Very interesting to talk to, he's def been behind some very impressive stuff.

Been running it through some heat cycles today, we got it driving in and out the shed now without the shafts coming out the joints but that led to a few other problems being found. was nice to find them now ahead of it being left back to him. unfortunate part is the rad and manifold may need to come back out, that's a pain in the hole.

As I’ve already said man, great to see this finally run.

Hard to believe the 1st post on this thread was targetting Players Classic 2015, maybe a year longer, and it'll be Players Classic 2022, so about 7 years longer 😂

Be good to see it in the Auto Finesse Concours d'Elegance area with my bm this year!

Still finished before the 205 😂😂. That’s all the fighting talk I have.

Even moving it in and out of the shed was some feeling, had to teach myself how to use a clutch again haha

Packed up and headed to Dubshed at the weekend to hang with the dubs. Is a show I’ve attended every year from the start but never displayed anything at. It’s a very different show these days now being more open but was nice to get the opportunity to show this of to the wider world. Still not fully tuned with drive issues ment it needed some help getting there.

Behind the trip there was a second reason, opportunity came up to get feature on Speedhunters and I couldn’t pass it up, this added a bit of extra pressure to be out to impress on the day and really present the car to show of all the work that myself, friends and some of the involved individuals have put into it over the last (cough) 7 years.

At that point the weekend was already made, so when the prizes passed and the likes of johns mk2 escort, some of the beetles, Porsches and mainland cars all collected prizes I wasn’t disappointed nor did I feel left out.

Throw a curve ball, picture of it goes up on the screen and it gets called out for runner up in car of the show it was a bit of a shock, followed by what felt like half the hall look around to give the thumbs up. I had to send the brother up and get the feck out of there as it was a bit of a daze.

The prize from Brian at short shift is a really nice thing to have. Will be nice to have on the home office desk.

Few other photos Pete at brookfab sent as I didn’t get time to document the work from the last week.

And with all that excitement home we went, hopefully it won’t be another 7 years.

Next outing will be players classic at goodwood in June, have been lucky to get an entry into the autofinesse concours area within the circuit which will be great opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best out there in Europe. Work for now doesn’t stop however, it’s back to Steven at dynotune to hopefully get some more dyno time and hopefully leave it ready for the road to get some miles on it.

As said man, well deserved win and great to finally see the mini out in the wild.

P.S, mind the window was dropping out of my car in that last photo. Yea, more parts to be ordered 😂

Had a good look round it at dubshed, it really is a credit to you. Look very very special and so many nice touches I could have spent a lot longer looking at it.

I thought id have got chatting to you at some stage, I caught you passing on way to meet my parents who came up for the day and after that never caught sight again.

Glad you liked it, everyone I spoke to talked about the details. Thats the part that makes it exciting to me.
