Well this is my first venture into the world of bikes. I'm by no means a biker and truly never had much interest in them, but during my extended visit to hospital and a lot of down time whilst recovering, my best mate and I had watched Ross Noble doing the Scottish 6 Day Trial and thought f**k it. Let's do it.

So with a rough plan in place to do the 2021 SSDT the next mission was to find suitable bikes. It was then I stumbled upon this Repsol 4RT locally and as I despise the sound of a 2 stroke, it was bought and dragged home. I didn't even test ride it as I was still very tender and the risk of damage was still very high.

So after this I waited until New Years for my first ride out, thankfully with a small audience of experienced riders on private land so i couldn't make too much of a pratt of myself.

Not long after that day out the bike suffered a major failure. Whilst I was wobbling about trying to teach myself how to hop and manipulate the bike, the lug on the swing arm had cried enough.

With the above setback, it was time to repair.
20200107_162122.jpg

With the back end now stripped it was clear there were more issues with the bike than initially thought. But the biggest issue was the swing arm.
20200107_162143.jpg

At this stage I also got sick of the axle stands. I saw the anniversary 4RT marketing images and feel in love with the stand they use, but it's rarer than rocking horse ****, so drew up my own.

20200110_165735.jpg

All the bearings were scrap except the new swing arm bearings fitted before I collected it. I couldn't bring myself to buy the kits consisting of cheap Chinese crap so the mission started on getting all the correct bearing either as SKF or Koyo where I could. I also at this time had acetyl bushes turned for the suspension linkage as its self lubricating, hard wearing and doesn't cause galvanic corrosion.

With the new lug welded in place, I glass blasted then reapplied the brushed finish before a coat of cerakote clear was applied.

So everything now replaced and back together it was as good as it would ever really get at the back end.

During our next day out I managed to snap the clutch lever. So some nice fresh Jitsie levers were ordered.

I despise "carbon look" but being on a budget the 3D wrap was much nicer looking.
20200118_155823.jpg

Whilst getting lessons in wrapping stuff that's a complete pain the hole to do, I also did the front and rear mudguard.

The repaired rear guard lasted about an hour before I snapped it properly.

Time for am update to 2014+ plastics and plenty of Anachem to keep her fresh.

It was at this point I also decided I was no longer a fan of all the stickers and would prefer a much cleaner look.
The clean look is still very much a work in progress.

With increased riding time I was struggling with severe neck and shoulder pain. A quick blast on a friend's bike showed me my bars were too low. So off came the Renthal FatBars and on went the Apico 6" raised bars along with full clean and rebuild of the throttle tube, cable and anything else that could be got to whilst the bars were off.

The result being a much more comfortable riding position, no debilitating pain and along with the new foot pegs completely transformed the bike.

I also had Andy at @Blackwater Graphics sort me out with a nice regatta soft shell riding jacket.

Which leads us to the present.

Front wheel bearings changed, loads of bits thoroughly cleaned and serviced and my bargain carbon fibre exhaust guard fitted.

Great to see you on a bike, Pete.

I’ve always wanted a trials bike myself, and figure it’d be a great way to learn how to ride off road properly and put a few techniques into practice when I want to take the GS up the mountains and stuff.

Brilliant Pete, there aren't many motorcycle disciplines that teach you how to control and skill more than trials. Bike looks great although I would have kept the stickers on 😁. Best of luck with it, doesn't take long to get the hang of it, you should try the lead mines in ards, it's a playground for trials

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the leadmines. Although I'm planning on going when it's dried out, I see little point in paying to go in and have a miserable day in gutters with no grip.
Much prefer the likes of Hydebank, Drumkeeragh, Wightmans and private grounds/practice areas. Plus they are open at any time so no restriction there.

As for stickers, etc. My plan is a halfway house between a 301RR and this 315R

I didn't know you had to pay into the lead mines now, most of my youth was spent in there on bikes. The rock faces are so slippery after a few bikes have been up them, it's amazing in the dry. I see where your going with the bike now, that will look fantastic. Its amazing how capable these are

Really is amazing. Literally whatever you point it at, it's fit to get over. The problem is the ballast hanging onto it. Lol

Looks like great fun! Always wanted a trials bike after watching it hours on end on Eurosport. I didn't think it was popular over here though.

I'm only used to road bikes so its crazy looking at those garage photos and seeing how much steering lock they have. Must be like next thing to riding a pushbike in terms of weight and agility.
How many gears have they and what kind of "top" speed?

5 gears.
1,2 and 3rd are very close together. Like 17mph, 20mph and 24mph on the limiter. 4th and 5th open up but only geared for 59mph tops. Which would be ******* scary enough with 3psi in the tyres.
As for weight. I've not weighed mine yet, but official stats say 74.5kg wet, most likely closer to 78 or 79kg I think. Still not a lot of weight, until you're trapped in a sheugh under it that is.

Oh and some fresh goodies arrived too.

20200319_191120.jpg

Airbox cover to try and prevent the filter from clogging with all the water and sh*te that gets in there.
Yet another oil filter, but more importantly the gaskets and o-rings should the ones on her be unable to be reused.

Got tore into the servicing. Then remembered I'd bought an Akaso v50 pro to document this stuff with. So unfortunately didn't record the engine oil and filter.
20200325_171329.jpg

But did video the gearbox oil change.

Managed a wee day of social distancing.

20200331_121514.jpg

Then remembered about my daughter's LT50 I was meant to have ready for xmas 2018. So pulled the cover of it and got stuck in to piecing it together to find out what parts are still missing and what I'll need to complete it before the summer.

With a reasonable collection of new bearings, seals, bushes and fresh stainless bolts, a fair bit of swearing and a bucket of red grease, progress was made.

You have to pay into the lead mines? Since when did that happen. Bike looks well, fair play for diving in and having a go. I would take the mountain bike up to the lead mines quite a lot as it's next door to me and some of the trials trails look tough and ballzy

Few years back, Moto Trials NI was formed to put an element of control over the whole thing. Riding is only permitted on a Sunday between 10 and 4 (if you're a member). The rest of the time, you ride at your own risk, if you are a member caught outside of the official times there will be "ramifications"
really liking the wee vlog mate
Need to stop being a fanny and staying hidden behind the camera.
