1.6 CVH EFI running probs!!! Help!!!!!!

I hav recently fitted an XR3i (1.6 CVH - EFI) Escort engine into my fiesta. I scrapped the gearbox, electronic ignition n injection, and put an 1100 5spd box, dizzy n twin ckoke on it.:laughing: Its beein running sweet (VERY - hehe), since im jus bedding da engine in 4 a while, but now its getting more death than usual, and now it seems 2 die out a bit wen u hit bout 55 - 60, revved out in 2nd, jus changing into 3rd!!! But wen u change into 3rd, its dead on. It will easily pull on til bout a ton, but does the same thing in 5th gear too???!!!!?? Wot is the probz?? Wud it be the second choke stickin or wot?? Im Baffled!!!!!:confounded: :confounded: HELP!!!!!

Maybe the mixture is slightly out?

Or it could just be the charicteristics of the engine! I'm no expert so its only a suggestion!;)

what carb ya using?? weber or pierburg??? both are really tempremental when you piss about with the airbox or any of the vacumn hoses!! make sure none are off ? or have you stuck on a k&n ... if so take it off and return to standard box

does it sound like you are hitting a false limiter at 55 in second? when its runnig right you should get just over 60 out of it in second!
its always worth a go stripping the carb down to see if the choke is sticking on ... ram carb cleaner through it and make sure the jets arent blocked!

Like he said. Maybe get a rebuild kit for it, and give it a good cleaning can only help. Maybe just needs a bit of tweaking

yeh i had all this **** with my nova with the pierburg 2e3 on .... can be really tempremental (sp) slitest hose comes on and it runs like nothing

Its running on a twin choke weber. Its from 1.6 mfi head (80-84). Its just annoying more than nething. Sorta dies out n backs off power at around 60 ish. I just want it sorted for short term use.....cos it'll b gettin a set twin 40 downdraughts.........soon as i get my exhaust system n i get chokes etc etc for the carbs.:laughing: thanx for the advice

Adam does that wee car of your's reside in portstewart alot? with wheel trims on?? If so i always thought it was a replica!

yeh mate they can be a ballax..... how easy the 1600 block go in?? spose it was handy enough with the 1100 box atleast

Yeah it would be in portstewart quite often, i work in portstewart you see! I hate them wheel trims!lol But as soon as funds allow i will put something decent on it! No she's no replica! Its the 1.8 16v zetec model XR2i (not the RS1800). Also quicker than the CVH's!:p


If you are talking speeds in the CVH xr2i and its seems to die at around 55ish then its because thats all the CVH's do in 2nd! The 0-60 times on the CVH's were always slow as they needed 3rd gear to hit 60. Unless you have the same gearbox that is in my car(44mph in 1st, 64mph in 2nd, 90mph in 3rd) it wont pull more than around 55-57mph out of 2nd gear.

no hes using the 1100 box....and it has no rev limiter so they push 60 in second no sweat..

and how is youre zetec quicker ... they make less power ..i no they geared them so they match the cvh's to 60 but im sure after that the cvh will paste it

Just cos it has no rev limiter doesnt necisarilly(sp) make it rev any harder. Like any carbed car it will only rev so much. That will likely be around 6250-6500rpm. And on a 1.1 box i still doubt it would pull more than 60 from 2nd.

Yes both cars supposedly do 60 in 9.0secs but side by side things are different. I've raced 2 different CVH XR2i's and beat both. There is a 5bhp difference between them. I have had my car dyno'd and i have graphs here to prove 117.7bhp and 152.3lb/ft torque. It will also be dyno'd again this saturday but this time the exhaust isnt hanging off so i should see a tad more. Paste it?? I think not!
