For a few years after I got the bike test I didn't have as much interest in car modifying as I had for so many years, and this beauty is to thank for that, did my CBT and whenever I got home I placed the order for this from England through a dealer, had it collected and delivered before I'd even passed any of the tests!
I had hmmmm'd and haaaa'd about what to go for regarding my first bike, I knew from driving that I was a total speed freak, so decided to be somewhat sensible and not get a sports bike.
Initially I was interested in a sport 1000 because of the retro look, however given how insanely rare they were/are I settled on a newer Ducati. I had thought a 696 would be a good starter bike, but the single sided swing arm tempted me onto the 796.
I really disliked the OEM silencers so right after I ordered the bike I was on the phone ordering a set of Akrapovic titanium slip ons, so that was my first modification. Then I added a few bits and pieces as I went, rizoma handle bars and grips, a carbon front guard and instrument cover, as well as carbon tank pieces.
I have to say this has been an exceptional first bike, and for the last 4 and a bit years I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, thankfully there's not been many issues, aside from a slow speed slide in November which is totally my own fault as I'd let the tyre get a bit too low for the weather, it wasn't on the marker but it was close enough. Lost a mirror which I've not replaced and probably won't as it's the left one which I don't find I used as much anyway.
So here's a few pics of when I got it to the last few mods I had done.
