On the RMS Blog: The life and career of Irish rally legend Bertie Fisher is to be celebrated in a new book, which will be launched in March. ‘King Fisher’ was written by rally enthusiast and photographer, Fergus McAnallen with support from the Fisher family and aims to chronicle the fascinating story of the four time Irish Tarmac Champion.

Fergus said “Bertie was a hero to me and it was an honour and a privilege to be able to put this book together. (Read the Full Article Here)

He was a great driver. When I was first spectating in the 80's he was in the Ascona's and Manta's and then later the Sierra's before the Subaru's.
Might get the book.

Been thinking about this today due to this thread. Jesus, we were spoiled in the 1990's - Fisher, McHale, McKinstry, Meagher, Finley, Cullen, Nesbitt and Greer ..... in everything from Extravision M3's and luminous pink Sierra Cosworths to R555 FEL, WRC Celicas and Yorkie Escort Cosworths. Such an era, with serious drivers and serious cars.

My strongest memory of Fisher was definitely the silver R555 FEL. Essentially it was a WRC in a Group A shell because Bertie didn't want to sit on the left of the car. Absolute weapon.

Bernard Munster is a great driver in his own right. Looking megabucks for the car though, which is why it's not back in Ireland.

GXI 9427 my favourite rally car. It's still knocking about in some form or another isn't it? Also, did someone try and pass off a replica of it for sale a while ago?

@simy - Denis Cronin (dad of Keith) owns GXI and still uses it. There was a minor storm as a well known chancer tried to claim he had the real GXI for sale, but thankfully he was blown out of the water.

@cormac81 Mark had earned a prize drive in a works Peugeot 206 WRC, following his exploits in the Peugeot Super Cup.

Bertie was my rallying Hero. I was lucky enough to meet him a few times through my dad who would have known Bertie well. I got to drive around Salthill in Galway with Bertie the night before the rally, we met him at their hotel and (unknown to me it had been pre planned) Bertie just asked "Would you like to go for a spin Patrick?" - after I was picked up off the floor I jumped into the co-drivers seat - we drove around and we had on the Peltor head sets ( the "mickey mouses" as Bertic alled them ) and Bertie just asked me about school and family it was super relaxed. He was such a great guy - feel very lucky to have even been in the car before its debut the following morning on the International.

Kept this copy of Carsport with tributes to Bertie after the funeral...
I'll upload the features as thumbnails... Might be easier to view in large scale.

The Fisher foundation was selling the last few last year around the time of the 20th anniversary. Not sure if there are any left tbh.

You could contact Fergus McAnallen via Rallyretro? Images on fb. He wrote it.

I contacted the Armagh Tigers who were selling/promoting it and they had none left. I’ve likely missed out on them now.

It'll end up like the Night Moves books, virtually impossible to find and a fortune if they do turn up.

I have just spoken to the author, he has some left and you can collect them in Benburb, Dungannon.

As I would also take one, I am waiting to see if he'll send a pair in the post and you could collect a copy from me, I will let you know.
