So this is a members thread I’d always dreamt I’d be able to do but honestly & secretly knew I’d never be able to.

Here is my 1986 JDM (done Irish) Twincam. Black on black with 13’ mini lights.

I’m sure most know the info now from podcast etc but I’d always wanted on since being 14/15yrs old. When I passed my test I couldn’t insure one, and when I could insure one, I couldn’t afford/justify one with the way the prices went.

Fast forward 20yrs of loving from a distance and fawning over @chrisd1 epic 86.

I randomly entered a Rkings raffle and my dream became a reality.

I know these cars have a stigma (mainly in Ireland) and I indeed know to many it’s a tin 1.6 hyped family hatch back but I’d always wanted one.

Yup that’s me, few weeks later my dad traded that in bought an new twin cam and I’d memories growing up in back seat being thrown about as it slide and made me laugh. That’s why I wanted one.

my car had a ground up restoration 2yrs back and then went into storage it seems. Built properly but never buttoned down and spanner checked.

Last two months has been back and forward to mechanics, streetracer for setup and torturing chris for parts/washers and seals etc.

after 9 weeks the v5 finally arrived and off it went to @big_pete for a ceramic coat and correction

I can’t believe the paintwork and the gloss/depth and clarity. Pete knows his stuff. I went ceramic coating as the car will spend a lot of time in storage, so I need the ability to pull the covers off, rinse and away we go.

its already booked in for mondello track day on 6th august and 86fest in September. It won’t be a trailer queen.

I’ll keep this up to date with videos and more photos etc

long term plans may be to put it back to jdm with 15’s, exhaust and headlights and fog light middle glass.

Congratulations for getting this far!

thanks for reading.

Wincam - love it David. Such a cool story behind the car and can’t wait to see it in its JDM guise. Health to drive buddy!!

Really used to hate these but would really like one now! Superb to see another winner on here, probably the best one around, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it

Amazing @da.murf , would love a look around it if your ever floating about comber. If you get it even half way to @chrisd1 ae86, then your on to a winner. I love these when they have a fast road/track set up. Always regret not buying his brothers boot coupe. Enjoy it.

You know what I think dude, an amazing win! You will be pushed to find or build a better example now it's had the full checks and your touches on it. Looks stunning after the PMG Treatment, Now time to enjoy 👍

Looks in really good condition, good to see you are going back to the proper styling. Winning it must have been some buzz.

That's a great story. Cool that your dad had the forerunner to the twincam, the corolla SR, (or maybe it's an XT?).

couldnt have said it better myself.

funny, I’d like to think I’ve had some cool (not expensive) motors over the years; 180sx, 200sx, type R’s, etc etc

but nothing even comes close to the attention that this gets anywhere it goes

Superb, big fan of these. Cousin had one in the late 90s and sold it for £1200  to buy a Mk3 SRi

bang on mate, yes I could have won a more expensive car/item or maybe even a better item/car but really couldn’t have won something that would have had more of a shock or personal impact.

Also fact they are climbing in value helps ha!!

Looks excellent, very clean looking car and it looks like it was a high level restoration.

I’d keep it as is and enjoy.

Looks brilliant @da.murf and sounds like its had a lot of proper work done to it.

Plans sound perfect too. Big question is what 15s for it down the line?
