So this is a members thread I’d always dreamt I’d be able to do but honestly & secretly knew I’d never be able to.
Here is my 1986 JDM (done Irish) Twincam. Black on black with 13’ mini lights.
I’m sure most know the info now from podcast etc but I’d always wanted on since being 14/15yrs old. When I passed my test I couldn’t insure one, and when I could insure one, I couldn’t afford/justify one with the way the prices went.
Fast forward 20yrs of loving from a distance and fawning over @chrisd1 epic 86.
I randomly entered a Rkings raffle and my dream became a reality.
I know these cars have a stigma (mainly in Ireland) and I indeed know to many it’s a tin 1.6 hyped family hatch back but I’d always wanted one.
Yup that’s me, few weeks later my dad traded that in bought an new twin cam and I’d memories growing up in back seat being thrown about as it slide and made me laugh. That’s why I wanted one.
my car had a ground up restoration 2yrs back and then went into storage it seems. Built properly but never buttoned down and spanner checked.
Last two months has been back and forward to mechanics, streetracer for setup and torturing chris for parts/washers and seals etc.
after 9 weeks the v5 finally arrived and off it went to @big_pete for a ceramic coat and correction
I can’t believe the paintwork and the gloss/depth and clarity. Pete knows his stuff. I went ceramic coating as the car will spend a lot of time in storage, so I need the ability to pull the covers off, rinse and away we go.
its already booked in for mondello track day on 6th august and 86fest in September. It won’t be a trailer queen.
I’ll keep this up to date with videos and more photos etc
long term plans may be to put it back to jdm with 15’s, exhaust and headlights and fog light middle glass.
Congratulations for getting this far!
thanks for reading.
