@Mont @acsmyth can you not do something with the plate so that it sits below the top edge/line of the bumper?

i understand this is aftermarket bumper but something along those lines?

I wouldn’t have the luck to run it without a front plate but somewhere like that one in @Gambit pic might be doable especially if I put my reg on from the S3.

Top quality condition throughout! Good chatting yesterday.

Nice meeting you too buddy. Looking forward to getting a proper run out in yours to see what they’re like with a bpu

I live in Glengormley so you’re welcome a nosey anytime

Took it for a run over to Gavin at Gsport Cars this morning just to get a base figure incase I go bpu next year as also to get a quick look at afr and boost.

290bhp. 279lb/ft. Hit the limiter in 3rd at 135mph. I tried not to go over with any expectations but was quietly hoping for a nice even 300bhp. Still, I’m happy enough as I think it’s pretty much standard figure for Jap cars before they got VVTI and it’s boosting as it should.

She certainly won’t be winning Race Wars any time soo though.

That's wheel horse power though or did he correct it?

290 at the wheels is a solid number a car that should have about 330 BHP. Supra's tend to have about 20% transmission loss.

I thought factory HP was 280? Well regardless, at least it seems to be pulling fairly smoothly on the graph :grinning:

Beautiful, road presence today is just as great as when they were new, such a timeless design and so far ahead of their time.

Healthy figure for standard that age... Friends was the same until decat and exhaust... Instant 50hp, remember the gentleman agreement, gets them out of the factory just at 276hp

Yeah I'm def happy enough, and was just a good base figure for reference when/if I decat it next year. Def feels more powerful than the S3 which is around the same power 'on paper' as the Supra but I guess there's no replacement for displacement.

I took this video as well the other day, but to be honest there isn't much exciting to see or hear. No flames or anything :p I did enjoy the active spoiler dropping around 9secs in. It's just a total novelty to me, especially on something that's 23 years old.

Superb!

Good healthy figure and something I always meant to get round to doing is getting it on a rolling road.

This being a Jap import should be 280PS as standard, as per the 1995 Brochure :grinning:

I've had the car 3 months now and although I've only really driven it 4 or 5 times I love it. The better weather can't come soon enough! This car never fails to put a smile on my face, opening the garage door to something low, sleek, retro and with a stupid big boot spoiler on the back. It makes all the right noises and power is pretty much instant, although I can't help but just cruise about in it rather than any desire to attack twisty roads. It's amazing!

That's not to say it doesn't have its flaws. The brakes don't fill me with any real confidence with 2-pots on the fronts and singles on the rears. There's also a vibration after heavyish braking, which I'm hoping is just a warped disk. I've bought some Motul RBF600 fluid and will be ordering some stainless steel braided lines, but I'm holding off fitting them along with new pads and discs until I decide whether or not to upgrade to 4-pot fronts / 2-pot rears. My car also has an open diff, and is pre-VVTI so I can look forward to single-wheel-spins and slightly less power than later cars. An upgraded diff is on my list at some point.

I also used to think they were big cars but now can't get over how small it is compared to something modern. It is 60kgs lighter than the S3 and even that's turning 16yrs old this May! Compared to current stuff it's lighter than a basic 1-series BMW. Oh and it loves super unleaded like a fat Japanese girl loves Fried Chicken Ramen!

The engine is pretty much a product of the 20th century and I don't necessarily say that as a bad thing. Simple brute force and over engineered rather than the feeling of something that was built with a shelf-life and over-complicated electronics.

It's booked in with Supra Specialists Ireland at the end of this month for a full service and health check. I want to make sure there are no boost leaks or other weaknesses before starting in to performance upgrades. For some reason Toyota have stopped making lots of parts for Supras and so far they are refusing to reconsider supporting the car, unlike Nissan which has started making parts for older GTRs again. Unfortunately this is driving up prices of used parts, so I hope it doesn't need anything. Normal service bits can still be surprisingly cheap enough though.

Until the car gets the all clear from SSI I've only really been gathering up small bits n bobs. Service parts like air filter, Iridium plugs and a K&N oil filter.

An upgraded Walbro 255 fuel pump to help once I decat the car.

Genuine unused 1990s Toyota service book.

I ordered a new key from Toyota for the massive price of £8 + £2 to get it cut at my local key cutting/shoe menders. This was after repeatedly telling two different Toyota parts guys in Charles Hurst that I didn't need to book the car in to get the key coded.

IMG_1646.jpg

To go with my new key I also asked TheShortShift to design and make me a new leather key ring. They sorted me out with this one in the shape of the Supra logo with my VIN plate etched on the back. I have to say this is a fantastic local company and I'm impressed with everything I've seen them involved in. Hope they don't mind me using their photo that I took off their Instagram page as it's better than anything I'd take.

I'm hoping to get my plate transferred off the S3 this month, so @Neil@rockvale kindly made me up a shortened front plate and Jap-sized rear, both with standard UK fonts.

Lovely work in progress as usual :grinning: Why do the brakes not fill you with confidence though? Do you actually feel like you are struggling to brake regardless of the possible warped disc?

Keyring us a nice touch, do they just make stuff to order?

Liking the plans! The plate will look great on it, I’m sure. It really is a car that is such a comfortable cruiser you could use it as a daily and it would be very enjoyable (minus the fuel consumption, of course!)

Thats a Lovely car.
Thats how they should look . Standard and simple and imo those are the perfect wheels for them .

Thanks :grinning: I've seen a few aftermarket wheels that I like but the ones on the car are def my favourite and I'm really glad @Modmedia bought them before he sold the car lol.

Ach, other than the odd vibration, the brakes are dead on for cruising about in, but I don't think they'd last long if they were put under any sort of pressure, and I like knowing what sort of discs and pads are on a car. I just know they could be alot better. A good disc and fast road pad might do with the current calipers, but I'm still tempted with the bigger ones especially if I go bpu.

TheShortShift make to order, although I think they're making some stuff to sell online through they're online shop in the near future.

Yes, I bet you are lol! See trying to find those in 17 inch versions (16s are what most of them came with) with all the centre caps present and correct... was not fun - but I just knew it’s what the car needed to have!

The brakes being the smaller versions... They seem to be good for one stop at higher speeds if needed and then the next time you need to be prepared lol. A lot of people choose to upgrade to UK ones but be sure to do the front and rears if doing it.

Also, forgot to mention - nice job on the service book - that’s a nice find!

Awesome!! Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh some day. Never had a run out in one either but I’d say it’d scare the hell out of you easy enough lol

Lovely clean example @Mont.

Noticed the wee front splitter rising when you started it last week. Does it drop again at a certain speed or do you have a hit a button for it?
