Seen this in the flesh outside Leggers on Saturday night (glad yous were busy but not so glad of the queues everywhere lol). Looked really well They are definitely deceiving in how big they are compared to photos.
I got massive clutch slip at a set of traffic lights on Saturday night when driving home from work so I popped into OMA today to book it in. Micheal definitely knows his stuff. He wasn’t over the moon with someone he doesn’t know just popping in though. Though I soon won him over and he was nice enough to show me round a hill climb Impreza he’s working on with 650 HP.
I went through the issues with the idle and the hesitation when low on fuel. He thinks it’s a tuning issue so he’s going to go through the ECU and make sure it’s all setup ok. He’s also going to fit a new clutch and skim the flywheel. Along with an oil service and a gearbox oil change. Apparently the gear box oil should be done at 30k miles but all the service history is in Japanese so I don’t know if it was done or not. Other than that he seemed to think I’ve got a great car, he said it was in amazing condition and he’s looking forward to working on it.
Bit of an update on the FSTI. I had the front and back bumpers resprayed along with the wing mirrors to take out all the little scratches. I took it WJ Blair and he did a really good job.
Next up, the car spent a week with Michael at OMA. The main job was to replace the clutch and have the flywheel skimmed.
He also went through the whole car to make sure everything was as it should be. He fixed the problem with the hesitation when the fuel is low. It turned out someone had fitted the wrong fuel pickup. It basically wasn’t long enough to get the fuel when it was at a quarter full. The strange idle that would happen now and again seems to cured as well. The cars is now running better than ever!
Next up, I’m having it paint corrected and Ceramic Coated this weekend. Can’t wait to see the results.
As you can see from the pictures, the STI stickers were obviously taken off for the bumper respray. I have a new set that I ordered from Japan. £130 in total for 2 pairs of stickers! (I bought 2 pairs as I wasn’t 100% sure the price was per sticker or for a pair, and I didn’t want to end up paying the crazy shipping costs twice).
I just had a guy from Holland message me via Instagram. He has a black FSTI and seems to know a lot about them.
He confirmed they only did the grey in 2007. In 2007 theY only made 279 FSTIs in total. And only 7 of them where grey. 7!
I’m even more chuffed with the colour now!
The only thing I’ll change soon is the head unit. The Kenwood one in there is a relatively new one but you can’t change the language. So it’s only Japanese, you also can’t get any radio stations as the Jap stuff sits at different frequencies. It doesn’t annoy me too much as it connects to my phone so I can play music on that, and I’ll listen to the radio through the phone app as well. Though it would be nice to have a new one with Apple Play so I can use Google Maps etc.
They’ve been there for years. You might know them as the mechanic Gary Dunlop Motorsport on Abbey Street. Usually specialises in classics and race cars but will work on normal stuff as well.
They’ve always detailed cars as well as the mechanic side of things. Recently they’ve rebranded the cleaning side of things as Dunlop Detailing.
Here’s their Instagram pages if you’re on there.
Picked the car up today from Audio Advice in Portadown. Phil knows his stuff and is really easy to deal with, I’d definitely recommend them if anyone is thinking of an upgrade for their car. Not only did they supply and fit everything, they sound deadened the doors as well.
The difference is night and day from the old set-up. The hidden sub under the seat is bloody powerful! I had to turn it down a bit from it’s controller hidden in the glove box.
It’s also great to have radio stations again. And it’s not in Japanese! The Apple play on the Sony is great, Spotify and google maps work perfectly. I actually only requested the Sony head unit purely because it has a volume knob. Without controls on the steering wheel, I find it’s annoying having to find the little volume buttons you get with the other brands.
