I just spotted these ones, local enough too! Any experience with them?

These ones mate. Saw them in a car before and quality was first class. Really tidy and the ones I will buy

Those are cheap, near half the price! Its great when you've got to see something in the flesh, and know it's up to the job before ordering, thanks!!!

Looking well mate! Who did you go to for the bearings just out of curiosity?

Small update today!
Just got my wheels back from cobra customs, refurbed in lotus sparkle.
I didn’t want black or silver, so settled for in between.
Sadly I’m not fit enough yet to fit them, so they’re going to be ornaments for a while. The photos don’t do the flake or gloss justice. Delighted!

So on Friday night, the kind soul that is Peter Warnock, called up after work and fitted them outside for me <3
We tried a variety of spacers up front, and ended up going for 12mm. The arches are stuffed out back with the 295s on, so opted for no spacer there.

Im chuffed to bits with how it looks now, I get that the car is marmite, but there’s plenty of stock m3s for those who don’t like it lol.

Another melt has reared its head - the PS bonnet latch has stuck, a common fault on these. I tried the usual trick to release it, but got fed up, and will borrow a boroscope to make sure im on the release on the latch. You can see the bonnet released and the PS grill off in the last pic.

New O2 sensors arrived too

You generally cant after a certain period. Can you put the photos back where they were hosted previously? I take it you didn't attach them here.

I doubt it - the links wouldnt replicate correctly - feel free to delete them if you can as admin?
I've since started using the file attachment feature to avoid this in the future

Wee visit from the postman and a run to Bavarian today, my ACLs arrived!
I went for the HX spec for non re ground cranks, which has the corrected tolerance for higher oil clearance. Hopefully they’ll be in for the lifetime I have with the car.

otherwise I got a new sump gasket, o2 sensors, engine mounts, and a ton of 10w60.
The car is off to DSM next week, and hopefully then it’ll be great till the next CEL appears lol.

Finally!

Thanks to DSM Autos, who took the car in this week, and extracted these tired old bits of copper lol!

As you can see, I was damn lucky on number 4! Thankfully the crank is good surprisingly, and reassembly has commenced.

Rod bearings on m3’s isn’t a myth, and I’m delighted to have the peace of mind now, knowing I’ve fresh ACLs in place

Will they need replaced again in x number of miles or is it uprated etc?

The ACL according to the tinterweb, is still a lead/copper bearing, which allows for the likes of blackstone testing, to reveal if they need replaced over oil changes.

The spec I went for was the 8B1580HX-STD , which is standard sized (ie for non re-ground cranks), but with a tiny extra bit of oil clearance, similar to what BE offer. In theory this rectifies the cold start issue for 10W60 oil, which is like tar when cold.

There's entire forums and FB groups about this, and they're as devisive as a political discusion in the US at the moment. I just read as much as I could, and went for what I believed would protect the car for as long as possible.

In theory, they're back in 'for life', but a lot of folk are now suggesting theyre a 50k mile consumable. given its been on its originals for twelve years, I highly doubt i'll be changing them again, given I love hurting myself financially with cars, and won't settle till I've at least cut my nose to spite my face with a Bentley Continental

I got the M3 back yesterday, absolutely delighted!

I wish I’d known about DSM Autos earlier, with the car having spent two months at a garage only to be told “I checked and they didn’t need done.”

Hopefully the photo above proves rod bearings in these, arn’t a myth. I’ll put the verniers over them later to post a pic of how badly they had contracted.

anyhow, just a post to thank DSM for the fast turn around, constant updates and photos throughout, and to thank them for detailling the car for me to arrive to! Proper service!!!

the car is so much smoother now with the plugs done- what came out of it wasn’t the genuine 4 electrode BMW “high power” plug, and changing the o2 sensors, and gearbox mounts, just makes the car feel so much more sorted!

highly recommended!

As promised, I threw the verniers over the best and worst bearings, which showed 2mm of contraction on the worst bearing, crazy!
I’ve also attached a closer pic to show the condition of them too.
The car is now in the garage for a few days so I’ve put it onto the Ctek to see if h the e battery can be reconditioned again.
