Great project mate but you know I like it anyway . just cool to have you back in a bug .
Loving it Neil. Its been a really enjoyable project. Hit a few snags down at Matts paintshop. Nothing i can't sort in a morning. Biggest hassle is the bonnet which iv'e ended up lifting yet another repro and the fit is shocking . My hunt for a quality german one continues.
Meanwhile my carb(s) spent the day in the ultrasonic bath and ready for rebuild.

Exhaust/turbo done.

At the moment i'm modifying and prepping the tinware. The fresh air vents needed to be cut off to accomodate the turbo which was no biggie as i wont be running heaters.

All welded up and primered.

My biggest spend on the project to date arrived today. The rebuild kit for the carb. New throttle shaft seals should be here tomorrow. Tonight i'll get the carb done then crack on with the tinware. Should have most of it done and ready to go back together by the weekend.

Do not use rubber hose and worm drive clips for an oil feed !!
Im not Stevie its temporary, the plan is to sweat the copper onto the the turbo feed pipe. Now it has to all come off as the oil cooler has crapped the bed ๐Ÿ˜‚

Stripped the motor today, oil cooler failed. Pulled the pressure relief valves and although they were gummed up a bit, they were moving freely. So new oil cooler ordered.

Got some more scrap exhaust parts from my local guy and decided to make a miniature hideaway muffler for the turbo.

Chopped an old mid box in half and stitched the endcap back on. Will fit a lambda boss before the box. Fits the space well and will quieten it down a good bit.

Loads of small jobs done this past while. Exhaust is done and dusted. Well chuffed how the muffler came out. Everything has been about making it if i have stuff laying around rather than buying it ( apart from the 12 quid bleed valve ๐Ÿ˜‚ ). I made a turbo oil drain yesterday from some scrap 5mm plate. Today a sweated the copper on to the turbo feed with some help from my daughter which was ace seeing her learning this stuff. Then i decided to steampunk it a bit, just because really, no other reason. So close to being finished with the engine now which is great as i need to get on with the front end.

I'd give that coil some support, although I guess it probably wont be doing huge miles to fatigue ?

Probably not a huge need, if any for the coiling anyway ? Although it looks kinda neat.

Once its tightened down to the turbo and at the block its all pretty rigid. There is a support tang on the turbo i could use but doubtful it would actually do much. Like you say it wont do stacks of miles, i just did it because i could really, reminds me of old vintage speed stuff, loads have asked me about it, is it to help oil cooling or said that it'll starve the turbo ( it won't ) it serves no other purpose than looking nothing like a straight piece of pipe ๐Ÿ˜‚ Copper does have a tendancy to crack over time but usually due to a bad bend or kink. I might open the garage up one day and junk it but for now it'll stay.

An old posche fram filter, kinda where i was thinking. Ish ๐Ÿ˜‚

Tis done.

Stripped the lot and fitted a new oil cooler tonight , its running ๐Ÿ‘Š.

Few minor niggles to sort on the exhaust but i'm chuffed to bits. Modified a distributor toinght so i can adjust the total advance without affecting the baseline advance. Will drop that in over the weekend, but for now, the hours and weeks iv'e put into it seem to have come to fruition.

Not much to report from the shed. What with getting ill in the middle of December and ending up in hospital last week, my plans to rattle on with it over christmas have ground to a halt.

I managed to get the front beam repaired, it was rotten around the bottom of the towers but i managed to save it ( and save myself ยฃ300 in the process ). All thats needed is a pair of calipers, track rods, balljoints and some seals then its finished. Then i can run brake and fuel lines. That should see the end of the chassis work.

Plan to get over to the paintshop next week and rectify some panel alignment issues as i want to get this thing in paint asap.

The wheel saga took a bad turn. I had some really cool 8 spoke Ford wheels that were vw pcd lined up, made by K&N in the 70s. They were perfect and being donated by an old friend who deals in period rare wheels. I was due to have a courier collect them but sadly he took a heart attack and passed away a few weeks ago. I have a set of repro porsche magnesiums here that i traded for some tuning work, they'll have to do for now, just need to get them blasted and powdercoated.

Mojo and funds are seriously lacking at present, like most of us after christmas.
