Not too many VWs and BMWs. As far as I could see, Audi was outnumbered by Rolls Royce!

Mayhem, how many times did people near go into the back of someone else?
I remember nuts corner spectator races in mid 90s. Saw a Monza take out an immaculate Mk3 XR3. Was great craic to watch, felt really sorry for the driver of the xr3 though, remember in the pits a guy went up to him and said "ah a drop of t-cut she'll be rightly" monza driver was a rally guy and he couldn't half handle that thing. It was the one week I didn't have a camera too!

How in gods name did so few end up wrecking completely?

Worth bearing in mind there was a few hundred grands worth of fast Fords on view, based on todays prices

RS/Mk2 GTi
I remember the first track day I was at, my dad had entered it and we went along. Must have been late 90’s, and I would have been about 10. Club GTi ran it, and was held at bishopscourt. It was filled with Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 Golf’s, siroccos, and the odd corrado, then a small mixture of other cars - impreza’s, escorts, carltons etc. They ran a sprint in the middle of the day too.

When it progressed to Kirkistown after that I remember some mad man turned up in his brand new V6 4motion mk4 and thinking he must be minted to have it on track and not care. TSCCNI who ran them too varied the day slightly using the short track in the morning and big track in the afternoon. The cars changed, caterhams became more popular for a while, then they slowly disappeared again when they tended to get hammered by the big turbo’d evo’s etc. The transition as I am sure most of you will know and have experienced has been huge into what is a common track day car nowadays. I remember it was always our very much road going mk2 vs the nova’s etc, whereas now our wee golf wouldnt survive against the fiesta challenge cars lol. Its evolved into sticky track tyres, coilovers, and big brakes. Still love going for a nosey.
The golf progressed somewhat in those yrs, with a cage, track tyres, braces etc etc

Thought I recognised that from the old mlr track days.
some collection of classics - a capri 😳
mk 2's etc all driven like they'd just been nicked. superb 👌
I remember looking at Mk2s in late 90s, £1-2k got you a decent looking 2 door sport or the like.
