so the way i left it the last day was that the car was finally finished operating and on the road.

109940207_3237094219682596_8878245959211689480_o.jpg

with no issues our so i thought

......so im sorry to tell everyone this went undocumented as i started to get very frustrated as the days went in....

this is the link of the video of the problem that i was experiencing.

i went through a serious amount of troubleshooting to find the problem

map extension

110667211_3249109438481074_8688051870843850672_n.jpg

break booster

110693430_3249110591814292_2497677974589836485_n.jpg

which can sometimes cause really weird issues if the break booster lines gets pressurised

plugs..... they here fine

i have no idea whats happened here with the layout btw
109769342_3249109608481057_8263878635118950642_n.jpg
109757073_3249058891819462_1799567812000985614_o.jpg

so i started with stripping any part of the loom i had touched with the previous weeks work and proceeded to undo everything i had done.

115756249_3249110908480927_7966941975800997035_o.jpg

crap quality, im trying to salvage as much as i can from messenger chats

Also to rub salt int the wounds my amp meter had somehow been fried when i was away 🤦‍♂️

112113075_3249107751814576_954076645896008688_n.jpg

and my vcds had rejected the cable

109823690_3249111105147574_40949194074953535_n.jpg

after going through every available option i was running out of luck and an ebay code scanner that helped me do basically **** all somehow managed to save the day and
somehow manged to show me a live data feed to which it showed me this.

110327788_3249111225147562_2502951083158121252_n.jpg

bingo....

after sent the afr jump from nearly -40/+35 i found it was a fuelling issue and that it had to be some one of my airflow measuring sensors,
the result was that the car was trying to constantly adjust itself whilst it started to pile on the boost,

which led to myself nearly been thrown into the dash it was that violent

so went back over what i had just done this time with the car running to see if anything i adjust our move would cause a shift in the readings of the code reader.

Maf was perfect and as soon as i lifted the map sensor extension cable the car nearly died and chocked itself

so their was the issue in front of me that i couldn't diagnose due to the amp meter being bust.

turned out to be the wiring in the oem plug.

so apart from that i also fitted a fire extinguisher after getting sucked into a black hole on youtube after watching cars catch fire on the roadside.8o|

i wasn't taking any chances so this was bought and installed within arms reach....

109826119_3237091026349582_6067795537244850068_n (1).jpg

ALSO on the good side of things it was fixed on saterday so i was able to take @cauld1 out for a run and well ill let him give his feedback

AND ...........

tuning is booked into autotune ni in ballymena on wed at 1400 so the rolling road footage is to follow and the numbers achieved which i have to say im stoked for.
also dropping in with @sam_9n for a brew and take him a run in the now tuned polo so fingers crossed all goes to plan.

once again thanks for reading

Onwards and up! 🙂

I have the exact same meter! Or rather a much older one, as in MUCH older, lol. Have had it since I was about twelve but looks exactly the same!

I’m excited also! Miss mine so much when reading this thread, would have been interesting to see if there was any speed difference.

I could maybe ask the new owner to pop down lol

This looks brilliant, even better in the flesh and goes ridiculously well, so looking forward to see what it goes like when mapped! May as well get the summer out of it and then throw a dsg at it, can make the gear selector work with it too.

@jayme it may or may not get gapped by an A7 :p

2 for 0 at the hands of a derv barge with aircon and heated seats. If it ever does pull one back it would be like throwing 1k into a slot machine and getting a 10er back....

So a little update as not much has been happening due to the weather being crap and waiting on people to call me back to follow up with bookings that have been changed a few times.

I took the car for tuning on june 21st but things didn't go to plan as the company got a few minor details mixed up and thought it would be a straight forward flash map and just a few personal complications such as work asking me to go back early which led me to pull the plug on the already tight schedule i had planned out.

Safe to say it wasnt a very nice day to get crap news belt fed to you

so upon arriving they were not prepared so i cut my loses after a quick dyno run just to see out of curiosity what power i was runing.
everything seems very healthy with a steady boost curve and steady power delivery.

Here are some of the numbers below with a video of it on the rolling road

116434292_3284372558288095_4145137205845825871_o.jpg
116512531_3284372264954791_1896864500668148412_o.jpg

Rolling on through the week i eventually got time to fit the camber shims to my rear axle and to stop the alloys from catching on the arch lip if i had 2 mm more of clearance the wheel would nicely tuck up in the arch if it come to bottoming out which normally does happen on roughish roads.

I found these Creation Motorsport 0.5 degree camber plates

9880e9fe-fe33-4a16-8333-9d165d5a665e.jpg

So i started on the rear hubs which didnt go as smoothly as expected.

The rust and the condition of the hole rear end was horrible and iv never noticed this before as i have had no need to be in and around their before.

116721449_3284371724954845_1276359365337888699_o.jpg
116705227_3284371454954872_4741813797691083496_n.jpg

After i eventually got the hubs off after wrestling with a ratchet for a few hours it was rude not to start with the wire brush and a fresh can of paint to refreshin things up and to protect it in the long run.

So the hubs where painted, calipers, rear axel and the rear boot floor was sanded sealed and wax-oiled to prevent any further damage.

After losing my temper a few times i stopped taking photos as i normally do, not like anything i do ever goes to plan like i would prefer it to do.

So after the hole process it was a waste of time as it didn't do what i wanted it to do, instead of catching on the alloy it now caught on the tire as the thickness of the pate just pushed the hole hub 3mm further out of the arch,

this was something i wasn't willing to risk dealing with as i dont want a tire to blow out and any speed.
so everything was taken back out again next stage would be to mill 3 mm out of the back of the hub mounting face of the alloy but we will see how that goes.

On to this week i gave the car a really good polish seal and wax which it needed so badly as i dont want to damage the new paint and im sure as a few people how follow me on Instagram seen.

It made me sick to even lift the DA polisher

116599947_3284371254954892_6259348490299270383_n.jpg

But over all it turned out really well and to be honest autofiness products are quite good for the novice detailer

To top it off a nice paste wax.......

116584505_3284370944954923_7781694720561055775_n.jpg

also taken a serious need to have my old OZ ultraleggra alloys back so im currently on the hunt for another set as the Rotiform rse still just haven't satisfied me.

how it used to look

Get a ceramic coating on. I know it's not cheap but worth every penny, especially with a nice paint job like that (y)
When its completely done definitely yes ill take it to studio 10 our ocd detailing.
its protected as it is now for a few months it got 5 coats of wax on each pannel for when it goes into storage but for as much as what i use it for now, what i have done will do for the meantime

Good work 😁 that's a health 240 at the wheels for not being set up right 😁

If you're worried about taking 3mm off the wheel you could take 2mm off the back of the wheel and probably 2mm off the face of the brake disc where the wheel mounts to and gain yourself 4mm overall

not much to talk about this week but here is all i got

so i finally got my 323 mm brembos back from powder coating and they turned out quiet well for some reason their was quite saver corrosion on both sets on the same areas of the caliper halfs but apart from that they are otherwise perfect

117288778_3309282865797064_8385657956703001609_o.jpg

so i started to rebuild both sets with new seals and any old reused bits cleaned up for fitting again

117343355_3309282752463742_8944662429140797864_o.jpg

you can see the corrosion and pitting in the above photo.

Fully assembled

117390336_3309280465797304_3387285325062614579_o.jpg

so now that they were built it was time to get them fitted

117301553_308863403882091_2616263267137647362_n.jpg

117298599_3168338773233994_675663665007156460_n.jpg

we encountered one problem while fitting and that was the main feed line to the driver side caliper.
the threads were damaged by the previous owner so my bud Caleb stepped in and re drilled the hole taped it and refit a new fitting and copper line to the braided line.

so other than that it was a pretty simple install and they are probably some of the tightest breaks i have ever seen on a car lol

Their is probably about 1mm of clearance between the caliper and the wheel barrel to which they do not rub, which is a massive win.

Also on another note the hole group went to the reload podcast Driven run for aware ni on sat 8th, and all i can say is that it has probly been one of the best days out i have had this year hands down........

Here are some of the photos taken by Ross Delaney
Other than that i never lifted my phone the hole day

Things have been extremely quite, things have hit pretty much of a standstill with going back to work in august.

Was looking some old phots yesterday and its mad the improvements on the car from the purchase 4 years ago and only starting to modify it last year quite and impressive achievement in my own eyes.

Also new wheels are inbound I'm not sure yet but it will happen at some stage I'm not happy with the rotiform wheels as their an off the shelf BBS rep cast wheel and the just don't do it form me in terms of a fast street car.

But hope everyone is doing well and things are going to plan on their projects.

Thanks ✌️

DISCLAIMER--------- THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS A FEW BAD WORDS AND A VERY PISSED OF TYPER : unamused:

Hello everyone long time no chat

Back not even 48hrs in the country and I'm knee deep in fecking problems already and 2 major problems they are.

So on Friday the car threw up 3 lights, abs, traction control and the hand break warning light with three audible beeps whilst flashing

Upon looking at the codes this is what the ross-tech software was saying.

131431277_976732152856494_4391826649906971341_n.jpg

theirs a number of things that it could be but i wont know until i get a proper in depth look tomorrow but from what I'm reading online its looking like the abs pump ECU which doesn't seem much but its quite the inconvenience.

Secondly........

i might as well nick name the car Russel hobs as the ****er keeps hitting boiling point our close to when sitting in traffic.

brew kit bought including a jar of Nescafe and some long lasting milk:triumph:

british robot GIF by BBC

this has been an on going problem since the car came from the garage were the engine was built. seems like both fans on the front rad have shorted and failed to work.

when turning them by hand theirs a little bit of resistance so i don't know.

After battling this for quite a while i have eventually thrown in the towel and just bought an upgraded mishamano rad and front fan assembly from Tom Martin as he is breaking his.

I cant be bothered fighting with it anymore.

so plug and play time fingers crossed 🤞

131035107_10225337309765662_2419924849747794660_o.jpg

Not a major problem.......
But its still enough to really rag me.

I cant seem to get the drivers side bumper to line up as seen in the photo above with the srs wings and the bumper seems to sit lower with the a noticeable gap between it and the bonnet. seems like the bonnet is constantly unlatched
Another problem that i have tried and failed to fix numerous times but i have a few tricks up my sleeve, so its not going to beat me this time

But for now that's it, rant over, haven't had the best of days.... again ...... AND

I like to moan so hopefully complaining about it helps.

Ill get a more in-depth look on things tomorrow but if it comes to the point where I need to replace the abs ecu its gonna be a problem as it needs coded with vcds and i don't know a single person in the area that has a genuine copy of the software.

More photos and updates to follow

Thanks for taking a look

So after my last rant i found the issue for the codes above in relation to the abs bump

turned out to be a hairline crack in a fuse onto of the battery tray in the relay box

131588890_3698579583534055_7970950788359531619_o.jpg

would not of found it if i hadn't of stuck the amp meter on it.

so a quick trip to halfrods and a few replacements where bought along with spares so they wont blow again without being prepared.

also few little bits to go in at the weekend, unfortunately i wont be fitting them as i have some work line up so the car is going back to McKowen motorsport to get the rad and H&R rear anti roll bar fitted.

so it will stiffen up the rear and fix my fan issue as i have the hole unit to replace.

Hello everyone

its been a while since i posted but here's an update on how things are going.

so the last time i left it i got the mishamoto alloy rad and rear anti roll bar they have now both been fitted.

i don't really notice much difference in the rad but the tie bar changed the car really surprised me.
tightened up the rear allot and also helps with unnecessary travel in the rear spring, but this should tine in well with the bc coilovers when they eventfully get purchased.

the plan is to cut the top of the struts where the topmount fits to enable me to fit mk5 golf camber plates to alloy for proper adjustment wit an s3 wishbone ball joint which also gives that little bit more of adjustment.

Also the car has successfully made it to London so fingers crossed for some shows this year if covid wants to **** off....

so poor cooper was watching as I packed up and hit the road :sob:

147089104_3839163106142368_483457765562102165_n.jpg

also it was a must that it got some proper fuel for the first time in its life (shell v power for the win)

147213603_3839162942809051_3296877534526825774_n.jpg

on another note the alloys were changed for rotiform RSE to oz utlraleggra 17x8 5x100 end et48 in satin black, it now sits perfectly with no interference with the rear arch

147364203_3839163172809028_4986817644214912691_o.jpg

Excuse the dirt it only got worse on the journey across the water.

With the reason for me bringing the car over with me glooming in the near future i had to do some tlc and tbh it came at quite the perfect time.

i was very lucky and unlucky with un announced to me the o ring under the temp sensor had bust and pissed the hole contents of the cooling system over my air filter and fuse box but thankfully i got it just in time managed to bodge it just to get to the accommodation were i stay and it sat for a few days until i sourced parts.

a new temp sensor, oring, thermostat and sparkplugs were installed that weekend.

147433411_3839162782809067_3693346870562667899_o.jpg

147284341_3839162726142406_8316893998759532655_n.jpg

Nothing but the best for little wilber XD

why plugs you ask ?

For the reason i brought the car here of course.

so that weekend i went to Manchester to finally put a face to the name of the fine man Dave Howlet i have grown to know over the 3 years of building the car.

for us to do the tuning in lines with uk legislation i had to insure him and leave it with him as their is no other guy i would trust to leave it with i was more than happy to make life as easy as possible for him, and give him as much time as possible to do the best job he could.

so it was left their for 2 weeks for him to do a proper tune on the road and final adjustment on the dyno.

it wasn't even a day until i started to get updates, the first quirky thing he did was this for the vcds software to recognise the car with the vag number

for those of you that know #potatobreadengineering

147094368_3839162019475810_4040060991770214114_n.jpg

so this was the first thing he sent out to do turbo pressure and afr mixtures

but so far so good it seems to flow at 230g at he maf which roughly works out at 280-290 bhp

with loads of more room for adjustment on dyno day with a more controlled environment

so 80% done of 100% fingers crossed for dyno day which will be sat 14th feb

147841051_3839161966142482_2450545893846865181_n.jpg

2.jpg

On a last note to make things a little more interesting i got some nice little accessories for the alloys which make things look the dogs ****

Got these little boyos from Poland after having to fight with customs and a nice big bit of import tax to match which i was not happy about but onwards and upwards.

Im so chuffed with the result a healthy 314bhp and to show it wasn't a flook here are the repeated runs on the one sheet totalling an average of 309

The more and more i think about it 315bhp is gonna be quite the handful on the road for a FWD car that's as small as it is and how light it is

QUITE scary i think !

Thanks for reading

Thanks
