Class mate!! Only small thing would be up a touch at the rear if possible? The dragging ass look takes away from it a little imo

cant really do much at the moment as the ap coil-overs are seized i do have my eye tho on a nice set of gaz gold coils with adjustable top mounts and some external reservoirs tho so if all goes to plan they will be going in soon

Easily solved, down more at the front :p
im scared to even put it down more at the front on full lock you can hear the tire just kissing the fiberglass arch i dont think its even wise putting it down anymore it would not be sensible
p.s loving that new manifold @cauld1 it looks epic

quick up-date on how things are with the car

its been left back to get the final touches done for the battery relocation and the shifter has been installed ill post pics at a later stage to show it in, but im missing a few grub screws from the box to adjust gear throw but hopefully coolerworkx will stand over that one .

Another problem that i encountered when i was home was that i was getting from time to time a knocking sound from under the car from what i guessed it would be something gearbox our clutch related from were the sound was but on closer inspection it has turned out to be the gearbox bushing and somehow the 2 bolts running through it have actually sheered off.
how i dont know ....... but your guess is good as mine
last thing is im trying to see if the access oil being spilt into the catch can will calm down eventually , so only time will tell hopefully its the rings which means they haven't fully seated yet if its not them im in bother.

Thanks for reading

so things have been a little bid in the air at the moment the cable i have for the battery relocation which was kindly donated by @cauld1 is somehow to small and im waiting on a new one to come the short shiftier has been installed and everything is in order to go for paint so its booked in for the first week in march this date for dubshed is looking more pliable every month quite surprised to be honest at how quick everything has come together.

also i have ran in to what i have seen to be quite a significant problem in my eyes but the catch can that was installed only did 700 miles untill it was full which shouldnt be the case so its leading me to think the the piston rings haven't properly seated yet and if that is the cause of the excessive oil bleed off the a few high rev runs up and down the mountains in mexico should do the trick.

but apart from that their isnt much else new i will be able to update everyone further later on Saturday our sunday as it is friday 21st feb and im currently sat in London heathrow at 05:00 whilst listing to the most ghetto rap you could imagine , im getting quite the array of strange looks throw at me so i think its a bit to loud through my headphones think its time to turn it down a head for my flight........

almost ready for paint

so after spending most of Saturday helping out the gang on their own vw's especially @Rossios ( whos golf is coming along incredibly by the way ) i decided to take Sunday and do a bit of touring around the country just to get the miles up on the engine and visit a few people and also lift parts along the way, stopped in with @cauld1 and Clifford so i helped........... well provided mong strength to reassemble and move his rear axle which weights 13 tonne  .

E34 is looking the part, Thanks for the coffee and the hospitality by the way.....

so onto the main event
i started to get the time to work on my own car again as everyone was at work. so the garage door was closed and downtown country was cranked up to the full to get in the zone so this is what has be on the to do list today

so i have been having a bit of issues recently with my catch can i will need to upgrade it somewhere down the line as it dont hold very much i would probably say its close to full at 100ml. it seems to be down to the cold weather which from what iv seen its a life saver but it clogged the pipes after filling and leaked down around the diff housing so thats were the leak was from so thats one less otherwise major problem fixed.

87555384_2886429588082396_2430406917747638272_o.jpg

i also was looking and seem to think the original placement of the ecu and bracket to be very tacky and that it could be mounted a bit lower as the abs need to be relocated to allow more room for the turbo intake pine and gear linkage cable which in my eyes theirs more room for less to go wrong and be in the way of each other.

so this is what i plan to make during the week out of aluminium

87178997_2886429154749106_2870626183525957632_o.jpg
87304126_2886429248082430_2610611015204732928_o.jpg

so their is 2 original holes in the bulkhead that used to fit the original mounting bracket i plan to drill them out and put anti vibration mounts in place to push the ecu abit further down and fix it inside this style bracket as shown above by my incredible engineering drawing but more to follow in the oncoming days

i have also scorched an omp strut brace bar to paint and install to spent part of the night rubbing it down ready for paint at some stage tomorrow

The work for this weekend dragged on for a bit longer than i expected it to which in a sense was a good thing.
Finally got the ecu mounted, now its easily accessible, looks a bit tacky but im sure i can add to the work i have already done and add two catches to the side of the mount to hold it in but I dont have the time at the moment so cable ties will have to do for the mean time.

Here are the pictures of the process of fabricating the simple but effective ecu mount

87304126_2886429248082430_2610611015204732928_o.jpg
88159405_2890032157722139_2998659373368082432_o.jpg

Started by opening the holes on the bulk head and fitting the anitvibe mounts .

Then after i had cut and bent the shape i marked the rubber on the bulkhead with a marker and pressed the bracket on to it to give me the positioning of the holes.

Holes were drilled and profiled and then rubbed down all the edges so as not to damage and electrical auxiliaries when fitted.

This was the finished product simple but effective ECU mounted

87534233_2890031811055507_3868965810785484800_o.jpg

Ignore the screwdriver in the pcv pipe, i was trying to keep oil spillage to a minimal
87370936_2890031714388850_1890401246557241344_o.jpg

When i was down in that area found some old brackets for the factory airbox.
They were swiftly removed and thrown in the old parts box

87498676_2886429738082381_2402799495034175488_o.jpg

After doing the ecu bracket i had a small bit of stainless steel left over so i set out to do my gear stick surround.

the old leather surround for the shiftier was drilled out and removed with the ash tray which left me without my 12v power supply which is a must for my fm transmitter, so that was the next step.

Theirs only so much exhaust drone you can listen too until your sanity melts away.

88177448_2890031217722233_1539856117620801536_o.jpg

My drill bits have suffered to this stainless steel............

never again !!!!!!!

GREAT MANIFOLD EVEN GREATER CUP HOLDER...........

87478049_2890030734388948_614956436803289088_n.jpg

On to the strut bar......

Some of the prep was done on Sunday night but spent the next few days sanding, painting and test fitting.
As seen in my last post.

87458021_2886429448082410_3042391542124773376_o.jpg

Painted........
and I am quite pleased with the outcome, their is only a certain amount of perfection you can achieve in a shed with dust partials floating around..

87848148_2890031594388862_7244634814941233152_o.jpg

AND fitted with the #potatobreadengineering stamp of approval
87739331_2890030547722300_5413692425614917632_n.jpg

I cant seem to understand why but it is so hard to keep this engine bay clean because as soon as any dirt hits it, it dose not do it any justice.

Also their is a coolant line that mounted to the old injector rail, but as thats been replaced with a billet one the mounts on the old pipe are rendered useless so the pipe was removed,
brackets were cut off,
pipe painted and moved to a less visible position behind the injector rail .........

I have noticed that my content has been quite boring recently so i hope this is more interesting.

As of now this will be the last post for a while as the next time you will see any photos it will be more than likely covered in primer but for now here is one more

87905401_2890030634388958_8454829648310697984_o.jpg

last wash before it heads to paint on Saturday next time i see it in person it will be a fresh flash red with no lacquer peel and have cup bumpers fitted with vortex skirts

Thank you for reading.;)

Nothing boring about that, nice wee project

I second this! Just caught up on the whole thread and I am really impressed with what you have achieved with such a "normal" car :grinning: I really love the shifter too!

I was just thinking that it might be your gearbox bushing broke, if your spring rates or another part of your suspension is harder than standard. The bushing might be taking more load because something else is not absorbing it... but I am only just surmising...

Looking forward to your next update

It was my gearbox bushing that broke. snaped the blots im 2 but in all fairness the suspension is very hard the last thing i want is to botom out and bust the fiberglass arches but its all to be corectly set up
Thanks for the input

Took the car to paint so everything had to be thrown into the car, buts its only now when im starting to realise that this is stupidly small, it was quite the uncomfortable drive down the night before i left for Cyprus with work for a few weeks

In Transit

88189314_2908782682513753_4634653849963986944_o.jpg

While i had the room and the seat out it was rude not make some measurements for some seat brackets.
you can buy omp sub frames for the seats but as im 6ft7 i find it would be easier to make my own seat mounts so i can get my driving position right, as i dont think the omp ones would be the perfect solution for my extremely long problem and also the fact that they are going to be half the price so win win !!

Test Fit

Mounting Plate

88309118_2908782209180467_5363641376418299904_n.jpg

At this point i just have to wait for the car to come back from paint so we can get some final measurements and from their, cut out the mounts, paint them and fit them with the seats.

Also i got an email from GTINI a few days ago and im really really really happy.....................
to say that i have been accepted for an indoor spot at dubshed 20.
so at least all the work i have put in from myself and others has payed off.
as this year for the first time attending the show in 5 years i have something special to show everyone ime

Quick update on whats going on not to much to say but paints going well and i will submit a post when its finished.

once again thanks for reading
Jack ✌

Also i have found a nice bolt in cage from sw motor sports so that will probably be one of the next major things after the seats get mounted

Looking good! That shade of blue on the cage is nice though imo, but maybe not with the red (assuming you are not changing the colour).

Hope Cyprus lets you boil plenty of pasta and from memory, you are not allowed to flush toilet paper on the island, so you are safe from andrex thieving :grinning:

I seen a nice set of breaks that came up for sale that iv wanted for quite a while and in my eyes i see these as being just that little bit more pleasing to look at that and also comes with a purpose but i seen a nice set of brembo 4 pot breaks and couldn't let them go for the price they were up for.
so i got them with a nice set of 323mm discs so its a big upgrade from the 312mm

94079569_3012497855475568_8023098723967959040_n.jpg

Obviously they wont be staying purple. I have a kit already to rebuild the caliper so this will be something to do at a later stage when i get the time.

Thanks for reading... and i hope everyone is staying safe and well during these uncertain times
