AdBlue Part on back order at Audi

My brother bought a 2016 B9 Audi A4 3.0tdi in Nov last year from a large-but-local car dealer. 66k miles when he bought it.

Then the AdBlue system gave a fault so he dropped it in under warranty with the dealer, but that was in August and he's been in a courtesy car since then while the dealer waits for the part to come into stock from Audi. There are 3 people now waiting for the part in Portadown Audi alone and the person ahead of him has been waiting since May.

The part is an Ad Blue control unit
Part number is A4MO907355E - closest we can find on eBay is this but it looks like it's not the exact part, based on the last letter being a D and not an E.

So a few questions, if anyone has any experience:
  1. Is there any way to get the part second hand or whatever? Is it smart to even do this for this part?
  2. Would it be time to discuss getting a fair amount of money back for the car from the dealer or would it be unreasonable to go after this? Like, is 3+ months without a depreciating car acceptable?
  3. Dealer says the warranty issue lies with Audi and equally Audi say it's the dealer's issue as it's a 6 year old car and not their problem. As far as we can tell, the dealer has the warranty through a 3rd-party insurer. Does a dealer warranty actually offer any value in this predicament or is he essentially stuck until the part might someday arrive?
Hope someone here has some advice on how they have navigated something like this.

If he loves the car, would he not consider having the AdBlue system disabled and mapped out of it?

Father in law's Tiguan kept throwing up adblue sensor errors. He just got it mapped out. Only 18k on it but it's out of warranty. No issues since and he got a cheeky map on it at the same time.

Oh yeah, that was going to be one of my other questions. What does it take to do that - a ECU remap?

So a map seems to be the way to go. Plus, get some extra fun out of the 3.0tdi while he's at it? Sounds like the warranty with the dealer isn't worth holding out for if you don't have a car at the end of the day, so map might be the sensible option. Would it put anybody off that might buy the car come sale time that the AdBlue system isn't there anymore or would it be seen as a win?

The letter at the end usually refers to the revision number so the D would be an older generation. If E is the problem module then more than likely the delay on the new part is due to a newer revision.

That being said, the older D generation could work just fine but at £580 for a second hand module that may or may not work isn't worth a punt IMO

Let's face it, if the only part that fits is the genuine Audi item......hardly the dealer selling the cars fault the part is not available ?

As said get it mapped out of the car. I would try and get the 3+ months added on to the warranty from when he gets the car back.

Got the 2017 Q3 adblue filter removed, dpf removed, EGR blanked and remapped. Have save so much on fuel and Adblue. Was putting adblue in every 3k miles if not less. Get it out to fork.

Reading a lot that it's illegal to delete it. Who would check it? MOT centre? I sincerely doubt police would

If the vehicle was involved in a serious collision, the insurers may want it to be examined, and if the removal of eg, emissions stuff has been found out, the driver's insurance will be void.

Removing ad blue shouldn’t be an issue.
Are there documented cases of people being fined/having insurance cancelled regarding EGR delete? Curious to know.

My Sharan Adblue has already had 2 pricey issues (one under warranty, the other not). Next wee light it will be heading for a removal. If the EGR fell out then, that would be tragic!

Nonsense. Absolute tripe.
Will they quiz the ECU to see when it was mapped out? Does the ECU have the ability to retain this data? Was it even done by the current owner?
Most of these systems can't be physically removed from the vehicle, they stay in situ but are coded out with the exception of the DPF which can be done and be undetectable.
