Over the weekend I had a bit of bad luck and a wall unit came off the wall in the garage and caused some damage to my car amongst other things.

Admiral (My house insurance supplier) have said they can put a claim though to replace the cupboard, workbench and tools that were damaged but I would have to put through a separate claim on my motor insurance policy for the car.

Surely that can't be correct? The car was damaged by the unit, which was attached to the wall and therefore part of the building?

I'll admit that I don't know the first thing when it comes to insurance claims, it's not something I've ever had to do previously.

I'm pretty sure they won't cover it. You typically have to include any high value items as separate listed items on the insurance policy (like expensive bicycles, jewellery), otherwise there's limitations in place as to what they will pay out for any one individual item. I suspect a car would fall under that category if it's even an option (i've yet to see a car cover option on any online home contents policy).

I was just hoping as it was a bit of the house that fell on it that it may have been covered. Ah well, I may get saving.
