My current one.

2 grand worth of E61 goodness, 110k on the clock and an interior that reminds me of a Rover 75.

4 ditchfinders on it, a carplay install and it has ate up 12k since I bought it 11 months ago. Lovely

£350 for the silver one cat out and sold for £360 and replaced with a £60 aftermarket one even came with the private plate, yellow one was £700 albeit now had an engine out of one that we had that was crashed, would drive both to the bottom of the UK and back in a heartbeat, seats fold flat for dump runs, won't set the world alight but good fun

Is that a pre pandemic price? Lovely car and similar on AT for double the money!

Yeah October 2020 so just after the first rise then it settled down again before prices exploded.

Could probably sell it no bother for double what I paid as its in great condition and runs great.

Guy I bought it from admitted once we done the deal that he had 2 calls - me and a time waster and said he couldn't sell the car at all had it advertised for 4 weeks with zero interest which was odd my only guess is the interior put everyone off lol.

Think I done alright with this one.
Was looking to buy a 7 seater for the wife, and was prepared to spend 15-20k for a fresh Sharan/Alhambra, then COVID hit and the need for a car wasn't as great as we were going nowhere.
Always kept an eye for a good value one, and spotted this. A bit older and more mileage than what I wanted, but couldn't ignore the price. Bought in May this year, 2013 and home in my driveway for less than £4k, could probably almost double my money, but I'd be no better off as finding another like it would be tough!

Best cheap car I've bought was the old P38, must be 2 years ago now bought it for £800 and my near 20k type r blew up the next week so ended up driving it loads including a couple of mountain biking trips to the mainland. Never skipped a beat and only did general maintenance on it with a lot of the parts included in the sale.

Only car I regret selling and it started off a finance free life of buying cheaper cars.

You must have got the only reliable one. I can safely say I have a completely opposite experience with a 4.0 P38, in fact it had to be towed off the boat at Larne on the way home, 4 hrs after getting it and it didn't get any better.

The fault warning 'dong' when you turn on the ignition will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Always said the best car I owned was this weapon, bought it to rock about it during winter

£500 1995 318is 140k and started first turn every time.

It overheated in traffic on warm days unless you put the heating on. It had more water in the back seats that Sea World and only 1 wing and strut top that wasn’t overcome by rust.

actually sold the wheels for more than the car

We tend to have a good motor and a runabout, wife gets the good motor and I tend to get whatever else we can barely afford.

Bought this bora 5 years ago with 156k miles on it for something like £1100, it's got just under 190k miles now and it's been so reliable it's hilarious. Only real thing to go wrong with it was the wiper motor packing in at 10 o'clock at night in the pishing rain on way home from work lol

It takes me to and from work, about 20mile a day. £20 of diesel does Friday- Friday. Dont really no why I'm doing it but I'm literally putting it up for sale this week as I fancied something abit fresher so now I'm sitting with a 2010 passat highline with heated leather and parking sensors that cost me £2k, Won't know myself this winter 🤣 hopefully it stands me the same as the bora in terms of reliability.

I’ve always used an older car as a daily, as other have said the freedom to park anywhere without worry, sometimes I’ll have to throw an old mower in it, jump into it after training or after a cross country race in 8 inches of mud, the wee one deciding she doesn’t like the McDonald’s milkshake and ejecting it sideways across the seat etc etc.

I always recommend Japanese as a budget car, as long as the rust isn’t terminal. In particular I’ve always loved Toyota especially after a trip to Uganda many moons ago and seeing 80% of the cars there were older Toyotas taking abuse on roads that I literally thought would break them in 2.

Current daily is an avensis d4d bought blind as a one owner car from England. 4 years and nearly 70k with me, zero issues. Plenty of space, a/c is ice cold. Punchier than it should be, 55mpg everywhere. It may be old but it gets an oil change every 6k and a service every 12, along with a a wash and hoover every week. One thing I can’t stand is a pig sty interior.

Was nearly tempted to view it myself when I'm up that way tomorrow...don't think the wife would approve of the interior though.

There’s this black on black one in Cookstown that looks like it needs a lot less work

Great news
I was washing the car the other day and I remember why the bangernomics thing doesn’t work for me. I did do it for a few years a while ago. I always end up modifying them then swapping them and modifying the next car after promising myself not to.

First cheap car a clio dci. Said I wasn’t for touching it just fuel and tyres 🙈

Swapped it for a fiesta again only tyres and fuel. It ended up with tidied up, stainless exhaust. centre console painted, induction kit, coilovers 🙈

I put it back to standard cashed in on the parts and swapped for a mondeo that exploded in a massive cloud of black smoke when a tuning box wire melted. I did actually manage to not modify it but I did money tidying it. After it blew up I bought a petrol Mazda 626 that developed a miss fire I never managed to track down got fed up with bangers and entered the PCP sh1t storm.
