I have sent 50+ people to them over the years and everyone has said the same that the price and service they provide is to a very high standard.
only downside is they have a long waiting list depending on the job but personally when someone tells me it could be 4-6 weeks goes to show the quality of their work

This is why I normally end up doing my own. Lots of sucking air through teeth then huge quotes or boys offering to do it for next to nothing who'll understandably do the bare minimum to get the thing out the door.

Some of the tools can be dear but they can also be rented.

This. Don’t know if this is a NI thing but it is infuriating

I had the R8 in for a 4 wheel allignment at a well known tyre depot (not Ivan kerrs)

Was quoted 6 hours to do the job as the under trays needed to be removed from the car.

I had them off in an hour and back on in an hour and a half. With the car up on axle stands lying underneath it and I wasn’t exactly rushing it either.

Took it to Ivan kerrs afand they had the alignment done in an hour

I can't believe some garages don't do timing belts  It'd be a handy day working in one of those places :sob: In our place if we don't have a special tool to do a belt it's just rented from Colin Adams

Its quite simple timing belts take an hour or two and have massive liability where as a service fetches the same money and less hassle

I took the mine to a specialist earlier this year. Wanted the thermostat replaced as it's a bit slow. It's behind the water pump so I thought what the hell, change the pump, belt, tensioners and everything else while you're at it and give it a service. It wasn't due a service but might as well while it's there.

Radio silence for 4 days. I figured he was just busy and doesn't need me bothering him. 5th day I rang - yep cars ready, come get it. Super.

Landed up and he hadn't done anything bar the oil change. Didnt see the point in doing a thermostat on the run up to summer..."sure, bring it down later in the year and I'll do it then". He was a right trek away too so fortunes in taxis.

I'll just do it myself next year now. Who could be bothered with that messing around and paying for it. And this guy gets all great reviews on here too.

That would piss me off. You asked him to do the job. Not ask his opinion on the time of year it was required lol

This work ethic baffles me, how do they retain customers? I run a very specific workshop, it is literally a one stop shop for every aspect of vehicle repair apart from bodywork and wheel alignment (both of which are sent to personally tested companies to which I am happy with their standard of work). I take the hard jobs with the easy jobs as they are MY customers, so you don't want to be sending them out of their way because you can't be bothered doing a job that's a little more time consuming?!

Ps....not aiming this at anyone in particular, I just don't understand how they have a successful business model with that layout.

Probably because welding is primarily a bodywork job, not all mechanics have welders plus nobody wants to pay to get a "welding" job done properly, I have encountered this many many times.

Darren is dead on actually. mildly surly but the best ones are lol. not handy to belfast though really.

there is a place off Dublin road too meant to be ok? Euro Auto Service. Never used them though

I’d avoid them like the plague. Got them to fit BMW Performance callipers in my 130i and they fitted them with the bleed nipples pointing down! They couldn’t understand why they put 3 litres of fluid (which they charged me for) through it and couldn’t get a good pedal. Had to drive to Autotechniq with half a pedal to get it sorted.

Depending on cam bearing/box design, you can lock a lot of cams in place by removing a cap and putting a piece of thin card between camshaft and cap and pinching it down.

Surely it's all chargeable time.. Where is the massive liability in a timing belt? If you can't get something as simple as a timing belt right you shouldn't even be changing bulbs.

DSM autos in Sydenham have done all the big jobs on my cars.

Timing belts on my Passat and insignia, dual mass flywheel and clutches on both cars too.

Very honest fella too, the timing belt was easier than he thought and he charged me a full £120 less than he quoted originally. (Which is amazing because you have to support the engine and remove on the engine mounts to access the water pump!)

Also, a garage that doesn't have a deal with someone like Colin Adams for locking kits as other vehicle specific tools doesn't have a clue. I doubt they even charge garages that give them regular business. They only charged me £5 for a whole weekend)

It's a pity Les Turkington doesn't do timing belts, I couldn't say a bad thing about him either.
