BMW Gearbox Question

Hi

Anyone on here know their stuff about bm gearboxes ?

I have an E36 with m52b28 and I suspect a fault with the box (bad vibration from underside) I've already replaced the rubber flex disc and added a bolt which was missing from the gearbox/prop coupling.

the code on the side is 1 434 292.9 , its a 5 speed gearbox.

so basically is there other gearboxes I can fit which may be better like out of a derv bm or is it best to get exact replacement? I ask this just with a mates evo he has both 5spd and 6 Spd for it but apparently 5psd is better so if Im going to spend the money id rather get the best option for this car.

any knowledge or advice would be great cheers im clueless here haha

I doubt the ratios in a derv box would suit a petrol engine although you haven't confirmed yours is petrol.

From memory there's 2 E36 boxes both 5 spd - the Getrag and the ZF

The ZF being the better it comes in the m52b28 and m3 if i remember correctly

The Getrag is fine but not as strong and comes in the m52b25 (323 etc)

Both fit both engines - ZF being harder and cost more to find..

A missing bolts definitely not good but it could be a number of things really, Diff, DriveShaft, Engine Mounts.. All worth checking if you can.

Feel free to correct me on any of the above BMW gurus!!

Yes Keith looking around on Ebay that does make sense one is like 60 quid the other is 250, the cars at my mates on a ramp so ill need to get have a real good look round it the night see exactly what I have and see what I need.
