70% of it is tax that’s why. And almost 60p per litre is a flat rate set by the government. Then VAT is added.

A barrel of oil in the Gulf has a way to go before it’s shipped 1000s of miles and refined.

And almost all oil is bought as futures so the wholesale petrol price always lags by a few months.

I know people that own filling stations. They turn a profit selling cigarettes and pre packed sandwiches, not fuel.

As above fuel is only really at a garage to draw people there to then spend money on higher margin items at the tills. I remember working in Centra in Donaghadee years ago and any time we were out of fuel the profit/footfall in store was clearly impacted.

Depends how much you sell, there is money in fuel. Depends what his deal with his supplier is like though.

We got 500L delivered today for £185.

We use very little oil so that does us for the year.

Crazy reading some of the articles about stock of oil in the world and how storage facilities worldwide will run out of space in about 6 months because it's still being produced at same rate yet we're all using a fraction of what we normally do.

Canadian oil from their tar sands has fallen through the floor. The cost of the barrel is higher than what’s in it.

There’s an oil tanker at the moment worth about £40m and has just been leased for a few months for almost £20m just to sit there full of oil. There’ll probably be hundreds of them. Just floating around for future oil deliveries. Petrochemical industry is a strange beast.
