CD lens cleaner

All discs I try in the CD player are apparently 'unreadable' and as a first option I thought I might try a lens cleaner.

Is this worthwhile, or even advisable?

If so, does anyone have any recommendations?
Or is it just a matter of picking one from eBay or somewhere?

I haven't used one in about 15 years, but the one I had was a cd with a wee flap of cloth that spun with the disc to take dust from the lens.

Had some success with it, probably worth a go if the unit won't work .
