Hi All,
Well that's it for the 2018 Autograss season. We've had some great action with great success and a frankly overwhelming turnout for our All Ireland event.
But why stop there?
As with all things we're growing stronger each season, interest in the sport is ever growing and as such after a lot of hard work we have obtained a brand new track just outside Newry. This means it will be Bigger, Faster, Flatter and no doubt even more competitive and well capable of drawing the very best & fastest from all 4 corners of Ireland.
For those of you not 'Up To Speed' with Autograss racing, you soon will be...
Twin bike engined cars? Wheel to wheel racing? Spectacular crashes?
'Autograss is a non-contact motorsport that takes place on an oval track of, although varying by venue, approximately 400m using a natural soil surface. Due to the close nature of the racing, thrills and spills are never too far away, which only adds to the atmosphere felt through all 52 Autograss Clubs over five countries.
There are 11 NASA Classes, differing by type of set up and engine sizes, from near standard 1000cc Minis through to specifically designed spaceframed single seaters with monster V8 or twin motorbike power!
Up to eight cars start on a straight line grid and race over 4 - 10 laps. This results in the major race meetings, most of which are staged over the course of two days, offering upwards of 200 races! All Classes normally race through qualifying heats and finals followed by, time and weather permitting, open races where all Classes have the opportunity to race each other.
The social aspect of the sport is a very large factor in what makes the atmosphere so enticing and allows friends from all over the United Kingdom to meet and catch up at the 'larger' events. The family nature is still, as has always been, an important factor - sometimes all members of the same family are seen to be sharing on car and racing at one meeting. Although having said this, Juniors (12 - 16 years) are restricted to two less powerful Classes for obvious reasons.'
Autograss racing has proven time and again to be one of the cheapest and most competitive forms of motorsport on the market. There's a class to suit every budget from 1.0l Micras to crazy twin bike engined monsters.
Regardless of the class you run (and it's worth noting the juniors are a great way into motorsport), there's other drivers always willing to lend a hand in a very friendly environment.
The name of the game is FUN and here's some pics from this season:
If you are looking for details on the sport, please visit us on any of the links below and we'll be happy to advise you. New cars and drivers are always welcome.
Full details of the new track to follow shortly, hopefully we'll get up some progress pics along the way.
A big thanks to all who competed/attended/supported us over the season.
