Company called control units. £171 including vat and postage
That's reasonable enough alright. Mine came back from ECU testing today just in time for MOT tomorrow, no lights for first time in near two years so hopefully it stays that way. It was £250 but I suppose it was quick service as I only posted it at 4pm on Tuesday.

Decided to buy another 750 and stop driving this one because it had a coolant leak at the back of the engine. Seems a bit extreme but.. I hate coolant leaks and this one was in one of the worst places possible.

Some pics before I started working on it

Put it into one of the worst places imaginable to work on a car :joy:

And started into it ..

Took the injectors out and couple broke #standard. The plastic is notoriously brittle

Intake manifolds off

I then doused the place in paraffin and got the steam cleaner out. The rhs was a mess due to a leaking power steering pipe which is standard fare on these.

There are two coolant pipes that run from the water pump and connect into a coolant accumulator at the back of the engine. The leak was coming from the accumulator end, around the large pipe.. so I suspected it was the big O ring inside there that had started to lose it's seal. I got new seals and gaskets for the accumulator so decided to remove it and replace the lot

The accumulator is held on with 6 bolts. 4 out of the 6 snapped on me. Just to give an idea of how tight for space this is I had to use the front camera on my phone to see what I was doing.
It was a real effort to get it off. It was seized on with the rusty studs but I managed to get it off. You can see the big O ring which was causing the coolant leak. Most would have removed the water pump and taken the pipe out that way but I wanted to cover all bases and replace the gaskets as well.

I managed to get two nuts on each stud and slowly got the out with a spanner. If this hadn't of worked it would have been an engine out job because there was no room for anything larger than a spanner back there. Was a relief to see them out. Worthy of a photo..

While I was fitting the nuts to the studs, I pulled my hand up over the engine bay, hit my elbow on something and dropped a nut into the valves :joy: it fell straight down into one of the oil drains. I tried fishing it out with a magnetic but couldn't find it. So I removed the sump and found it laying in it. Ive got the valve covers back on now to make sure I don't drop anything else in, feel like I've used 2 lives in this job already..

Just have to get everything cleaned up and refitted now.

A friend of mine pulled one of these out of a barn and put it back on the road for next to nothing. They're a great driving car but thirsty lol

I usually got my friend in bm to print the spec list for me. Try a decoder website but the only AC parts available were what it already has. Theres also schnitzer wing mirrors but they are very rare and terrible looking

Replaced the O ring in the coolant accumulator which is what I believed to be the cause of the coolant leak.

Also replaced the O ring into the receiving water pump and the gaskets which sit on the accumulator

It was a challenge refitting the accumulator whilst keeping the gaskets in place and getting a snug fit with the large coolant pipe because I couldn't see what I was doing !
Had to feel my way round and take videos with my phone. Nightmare

It took as long to do that as it did to strip the manifolds off the car. Should be plain sailing from now until I turn the key though.

Changed the spark plugs since they were so accessible and fixed a plug lead that I broke lol

Sealed the inlet manifold gaskets with reinzosil and torqued down to 24nm after a couple of hours to prevent access sealant squishing into the inlet ports.

I used over 3m of 8mm diameter rubber fuel hose to replace every single emissions line, vacuum line and fuel hose that I could find. Replaced the small silicon lines for the secondary air pump also. Every clip that was taken off was replaced with fuel clamps.
For example.. all new

There were also a load of hard plastic lines that were very brittle and cracked in places. I got a few meters of clear pipe and bent them into shape replacing clips and rubber pipe while I was at it.
Black pipe would have been ideal but I couldn't find any. All this stuff is hidden in the engine bay so I wasn't too worried about the colour.
Example below but everything you see you need to x2 since it's replicated on the other cylinder bank!

I mentioned a leaky power steering pipe earlier which made a bit of a mess. Replaced it with a bit of a fight and limited space!

Got the valve covers and inlet manifolds shot blasted and I gave them a few coats of silver

Fitted the valve covers with new gaskets, torqued to 10nm. Part no below for reference

Opened a new tube of Reinzosil and put a beed of sealant around each inlet port on the inlet manifold gaskets. smeared a film onto the other contact surface being the inlet manifolds for good measure and fitted them.

Waited a couple of hours then torqued the 24 nuts down to 10nm to avoid excess sealant squishing into the inlet ports.
