Not quite. I went from an 2004 E39 530d 5spd auto to a 2015 (facelift) 520d 8 spd auto. The f10 feels faster probably helped by the 8 spd auto box and the fact it has more power than the older 530d.
I’m really impressed with the F10. Driving it is effortless, feels torquey, not a squeak or rattle from the interior, great steering and handling.
I was thinking of going back to petrol as my commute has changed to five miles now but would hate to see it go!

Thanks yeah I had an e39 before my e60. I must get a test drive in one. I was worried the 2l auto but be doing a lot of revving but the 8 speed box probably means it's not.

No it’s fine. In Taxi driver mode (eco) it changes up well under 2000 rpm and keeps up with traffic no problem

I can’t find a clean e60 Lci anywhere at a reasonable price. I was sticking with a 525 for insurance reasons, but I’m thinking I’ll take whatever pops up that is clean. I want a 6 cyl so 520 is out.

I'll be honest England might be your best shot, too many felt spec ones here and if you get one here you may need to set a budget aside to do some repairs.

Possibly getting the chance to look at a family owned 07 530d se auto with a load of options from factory.

Much horrors with them folks?

If it’s pre-LCI auto, the boxes can give a bit of bother. Just the usual electric niggles and silly things like glow plug module etc then. Reliable enough things, I know plenty with very high mileage.

Cheers. If offered, I'll be bidding low on it as I don't need it, just a want for a change. I don't think it's even turned 110k, yet.

How woukd I know if it's LCI?

Simple way of telling the difference is that the LCI should have the joystick style gear stick instead of the plain old one. From memory, LCI came in mid-late 2007.

Thanks. This one's August registered, so every chance its an LCI.

The pre LCI auto box is still the better 6 speed box, shouldn't be an issue if it drives alright. Although 07 is probably an LCI anyway, if it's not it will still be fine. As Trevor says it's mostly electrical issues, so check everything works, i.e sat nav and Bluetooth etc if it's fitted.

Mine is an LCI with the older style gearstick but its due to being a 520d they didn’t get the joystick until they came with the N47 engine for 08 but unsure if early LCI’s in the 6 cylinders were the same.

@Graham the lights are also a give away if it has LED indicators in the rear its an LCI.

Also the bumpers on the SE are different if it has round fog lamps its a Pre LCI and if has a more squared shape fog lamp its an LCI

I’m pretty confident the 6 cylinder LCI’s all came with the newer gearstick but I could be wrong. I hated all the pre-LCI auto’s I’ve driven, jerky laggy oul things, LCI’s were always perfect.

A few months later and it's been offered to me. It is, as expected, an LCI and a deal is done. It's a well equipped SE, but is there an easy way for me to get the built sheet for the car?
